What to do about ERR 99 on Canon 30D?

I have a Canon 30D and I have been getting rampant ERR 99 messages, about every other picture now (impossible to take do photography like this.) I can correct it by turning the camera on and off and taking a picture. I don't have to take the battery out to get it to reset. I have only had to take the battery out a few times to get it to work.

I shoot with Canon lenses only: 50mm 1.4, 24-70 2.8, 17-85 4.0-5.6. The ERR 99 happens with all of them.
I also shoot with two of them on my 5D Mark II and they work great on that body.

I have cleaned the contacts of the lenses and the body, but this has yielded no results.

Has anyone had this situation before and been able to correct it? Or does anyone know what to do other than send it to Canon?

I am hesitant to send it to Canon for I don't want to pay them to tell me it is simply broken. Has anyone had success with sending it to Canon and not having any more atrocious ERR 99 messages?

Oh 30d, why can't you behave?
