jim_marby
Hi everyone

I just got a new E-3 but I think I've got problems. When I try to take a photo there is a beep as the focus locks on, then a slight sound as if the shutter it trying to operate, then nothing. The shutter won't trip and the camera locks up entirely.
I have to turn it off and back on to energize it again.

I've sent an email to the dealer in hopes of getting a new one but in the meantime is there any kind of shutter lock that may be activated that I'm not aware of? Naturally I'm looking for an easy way out, hoping I don't have to send it back to the dealer and wait for a new one.

By the way, I've owned many Olympus digitals including the E10, E20, 500,510, 520 and E-1 so I'm very familiar with their operating systems.
I'm really hoping I just overlooked some setting.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

Jim Marby
ken_max__parks
Jim,

I would be inclined to investigate a bit further…

Have you checked the internal contacts in the battery compartment? Maybe there is some oxidation and a simple cleaning may be the resolution.

Also, you might want to call Olympus technical support (1-800-260-1625). I have done so on occasion and found a few mistakes in the E-3 Instruction Manual.

Good luck to you, buddy

peter_foiles2
Jim, sounds like a DOA to me. If you can, exchange at the store where you bought it otherwise send to Oly.

Ken: A brand new camera with oxidation on the battery contacts is defective and goes back the factory, period.
chris_epperson
Is your battery fully charged when this happens? My E3 will lock with the mirrow up at times and I'll have to do the same, turn off and back. Even though the camera isn't saying I have a dead battery I notice that if I change the battery the problem will stop. I've never experienced this with my 500 just the E3.
jim_marby
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I tried many things to get it to work but to no avail. All contacts were cleaned, I used a fresh battery, I tried different lenses, reset the camera to it's defaults etc.
I shipped it back to the dealer (Cameta Camera) and they shipped a new one out that same day, the new one works fine.
Cameta is a good place to deal with.

Jim Marby
