cariad
Sorry if I post this in the wrong heading, but I have no idea where to post this question.
Since it is wedding related I thought I would try here.
My insurance company decided not to insure camera equipment anymore for theft at venues while shooting weddings. Does anybody have any idea who could insure my cameras and are they
reliable?
Thanks and again sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.
savagesax
Mine is through Alstate, a 2 million dollar policy for theft, broken gear, accident, such as someone tripping over a light stand, the studios burning down, $500 deductable. A few places in Los Angeles REGUIRE a 2 million dollar policy to shoot at their establishment; such as the Beverly Hills Hotel. Most places are only 1 million.

My policy is much less than PPA or WPPI's insurance programs. Shop around, it helps if you have the same insurance company for everything, such as cars, your house, the boat and even your life insurance policy. I only pay about $35 a month.

dean_riggott
I've been with American Family for about 10 years. It's an Inland Marine policy in which I list the gear and dollar amount I want insured. They charge a set amount per $100 of coverage, and it's not very expensive. I think I pay around $300/year for around $25k worth of listed items.

Business Insurance and umbrella policies for the scenarios above are sold seperatly and are also a good idea, but have nothing to do with camera gear in my case.

dean_riggott
It's funny, I've shot weddings for 18 years, leave my gear sitting around all day, and have never had anything stolen. And usually it's not hidden, or being watched!

But I keep hearing stories from photogs in other cities about how prevalent theft is at weddings. Then I shot a wedding in Houston Texas this year and was so worried about it that I hired a teenager to sit with my gear all day. The peace of mind was well worth $50 I paid her.

But here where I live I've never heard of it happening. I just hope these thieves don't go so far as to read these forums and start moving to my city! But if they do, I hope the nab both of my D2x's, so I can take the money and go buy a couple of D3's! It will save me $8k, since they're only worth about $1k each, but are insured for $5k each!

:-)

I am not in my office today, so cannot post the companies name right now but will gladly post it come Monday.

Best, D.
