leica_virgin
I am going to go public with my Leica ignorance. But I recently came across a Leica lens cap that I didn't even know I had. I assumed that it fit a 50/2 Summicron as I owned one of these thirty-some-odd years ago. After being Leica-less for way too long, I bought a iiif a couple of years ago with a Summicron which came with its own cap. This "new" (old) cap is just a tad too small to fit it. Almost, but not quite.
Is this a cap for a Summitar, perhaps? Or possibly an Elmar?
cpj
I don't know. The photo is too small for me to see it. Do you have a vernier caliper? Measure across the inside of the cap. If it is for the Summicron it should be 41.87 mm or 1.6 inches--at least that's what my old silver cap from the 1960's measures. it has Leica impressed on the front, is made of aluminum, and has a felt like liner on the insider rim to hold it onto the lens. . . . or maybe that's the cap for the 35 mm Summicron of the 1960's ?
john_shriver
Summitar cap is a hair too small for a collapsible Summicron. The first Summicron caps were Summitar caps, but they machined some of the lip off the rim of the cap, and put an enameled label inside reading "Sumicron". Perhaps those first Sumicron caps also had thinner felt.
jerry_lehrer1
James,

Sounds like you have a Summitar cap. My Summitar has a non-Leitz screw-in lenscap,

Jerry
