williamting
While I have not been out there, I know the environmental conditions of Xiamen and Mongolia can be pretty harsh and dusty.

Since you're on a full frame, I'd opt for the 24-70/2.8 and 70-300/4.5-5.6 to cover more range with the 24-70/2.8 on as the walkaround.
stemked
Don't exclude Beijing from the 'dusty' category. I'd agree with Ting for a full frame camera. I covered from 20-200 with three lenses on a film camera on a trip to Beijing and southern China. I ended up not using the ultra wide end all that much; probably 90% of my shots were in the 24-105 range.
ken_lo
Definitely 24-70 and 70-300. There should be plenty of culture to shoot in Mongolia and a telephoto lens is very useful. Ultra-wide, on the other hand, can be skipped as 24mm on your standard zoom should be more than sufficient. Good luck and enjoy!
ferd_lu
Yeah, 24-70 f2.8 and the 70-300VR is what am packing. But I'm also tempted to bring the fisheye as well.

brooks_lester
24-70 and 70-300. If you need wider than 24mm shoot a three frame pano and stitch. You'll want the 24-70 for most of your shooting.
