It's a little late - - but I didn't even remember that it's Wednesday or rather.... WedNEsDAy...

Well due to the fires & desperation to finish my book, it's done, all I've had a chance to photograph the last week is this....

It's a shot of the moon the other night. D300 + Sigmonster.....

I hope I'll do this right this time....

Interesting.. interesting... thanks Lil and Rene

I like the sharpness of the moon. I will have to lookup that lens. I used 300mm f/2.8 on Canon D40 once, i had to zoom in 8% to fill the frame afterwards. I wanted to use on the moon a 500mm f/4 on the moon next time i rented one for animal pictures.

But from the sound of it this Sigmonster doesn't sound very expensive. I will look up the specs on it, but what's your feedback from using it, love it, hate it, ok, sometimes?

Robert,

"But from the sound of it this Sigmonster doesn't sound very expensive. I will look up the specs on it, but what's your feedback from using it, love it, hate it, ok, sometimes?"

LOL I think you should take a look at the cost of this lens. It weighs 14 lbs or about 7 kgs. It's huge. As for cost..... Check Sigma or B&H & you'll see. But, what do you consider expensive? $ 10,000? New this lens sells for about $ 8,000. I was very lucky & found a mint one for a lot less. I can not afford an $ 8,000 lens.

Feedback - - I love it. It's sharp & I have great reach with it. I love zooms - - it's what I wanted. Don't regret buying it for anything.

Lil :-)

Yup found it seconds later, on sale for $7200 from $8000 on B&H. I was thinking under $3000, since I thought I knew the expensive lenses :-). I rented a 500mm f/4 on a Canon D40 and 1D Mark III and i enjoyed it, with IS engaged, shooting in low light too. I got some cool shots in low light. I didn't know Sigma had an expensive big zoom....... but still, a $5800 prime 500mm i would prefer to a Sigma zoom, but it's good to know there are alternatives, and that 800mm f/5.6 even on a big heavy lens without Image Stabilization would be nice.

Thanks Rene. Really like your work, and many others as well. It was amazing to watch the spider subdue the stink bug and lift it up from the floor, even though the stink bug was bigger, kicking and spewing.
