ty_ueda
I have a beautiful yashica mat camera (not 124, just mat) and I'm having sort of a problem with the crank. From pictures 1-7 the crank has a really funky pattern. It cranks about 1/3 or 1/4 of the way and then I have to crank it back to the resting position, click the sutter button (it does not take a picture) and then crank it 1 full rotation, and then crank it back 1 rotation. I am not quite sure if it is suppoed to do this but it still takes pictures. It didn't happen either untill after I put 2 rolls through it. I have actually used this to my advantage. When this happens, it allows me to take double expousres because it cocks the shutter twice. I was wondering if it can be fixed, where it can be fixed and about how much. jack_welsh
Ty, I'm not sure if it can be fixed. if it has a damaged part. It could be possible to find the needed part from a junk camera. This, is a good example why, whenever someone wants a suggestion on buying a TLR. I always tell them to get one with a film winding knob. Such, as a Yashica D or Mamiya C220. But, don't give up on this one.
david_f._stein
I agree with Jack. Although there are gears in knob winds also the cameras seem to be less problematic and much more quiet and more fluid in operations. I am glad most folks want the cranky cameras! jack_welsh
Years ago, when I had the C330 and C330f, a couple of times the film winding crank jammed. And, I would have to send the camera to Bell and Howell to have it fixed. This was back in the 70's when there wasn't an internet to find simple problems such as that. On, some of my Yashicas, they have jammed, also. BUT, the film crank ones are still very good cameras. Now, I have the C220, about 8 or so film crank Yashicas, and 3 Yashica knob wind. So, I have no reservations in buying the film crank ones. Ty, a great book on repairing Yashica TLR's, it help me with several of mine, is Ed Romney's book. Even if you have someone else repair it. It is still a great book to have. cabbiinc
My Mat, which I bought from the original owner and I was incredibly lucky to find it, requires me to crank it about 2/3rds of the way then back to the resting point. I was told by the original owner that that's the way it was designed. I agree with Chris. Mark Hama is the guy to go to. I haven't actually used him but he has a good reputation. ty_ueda
Thanks so much for your advice! I see what dan is saying but what I have to do is very different. after I bring it back the first time, I have to bring it all the way around again for it to actually take a picture. How expensive is this Mark Hama guy?
ty_ueda
I am only worried that this is over advancing the film and I am losing precious film.
