D300 Image Review

Is there a way to limit the time on the instant image review? I believe it stays on for 20 seconds unless you press the

shutter release. I like this feature, but would like to limit the time. Thanks ... Ray.

Custom Setting c4: you can change that to 10 seconds instead (or much longer).

Better still - turn this feature "off". To activate, just push the playback button - that way, you manually determine how long the display remains in the LCD.

This may be an overly-simple reminder, but you can tap the shutter release to end the review.

I turn it off. Saves batteries! I don't need to check every photo I take. I traveled to London recently for 10 days. Took nearly 3,000 photos with my D300 and used only one battery! This was shooting RAW+JPG Basic with almost no use of the built-in flash and no image preview. I was amazed with the battery performance.

I have the habit to check my results, the histogram, etc. after each capture, unless I am shooting sports or action so that I don't have time to do so. What is the big deal if I use a little more battery power? It is not like that is going to have any impact on world-wide energy consumption.

It's a shame Nikon doesn't give a B/W preview option.

 

Like Shun, I also check my histogram(s) after each shot.

 

I like to shoot wide dynamic range scenes and with my old D70 the reds get clipped and I don't realize this until I get home.

 

Does anyone know if a B/W preview would save a significant amount of power?

Exactly what is the compelling reason that we need to save battery power so badly?

 

If you are traveling in the wildiness for a few weeks without any A/C power, I can understand that you want to save every drop, e.g. what Aaron Linsdau did a couple of months ago:

But for 99% of our everyday shooting, I see absolutely no problem if we need to change batteries once or twice in the middle of the day. So far I have yet to exhaust an EN-EL3e on either the D300 or D700 within a day of shooting. If you are using the EN-EL4a, it really lasts a long time.

Shun, I think people need to have a mindset of reducing, rather than that of consuming.

 

My D300 as with my D70 only have one battery for each camera.

 

If everyone on the planet bought say 3 batteries for each of their DSLRs and have upgraded 3 times where do you

suppose all the old batteries go?

 

And not to sound like a typical European, there are four in our family and we drive only one car - a 3 door VW Polo.
