Sironar W 210 vs Single Coated Fujinon W 210 for 8x10?

How much more generous is the image circle and coverage of the Rodenstock Sironar W 210 lens vs an older single

coated Fujinon W 210 (mine is in a Seiko shutter) with the writing inside the the inner ring of the front element? The

older SC Fujinons have a reputation for having a more generous image circle than their later MC brethren.

 

This would be used as a wide angle on 8x10. I will mostly be contact printing, though it is conceivable I could enlarge

8x10 if I ever get to setting up my Zone VI enlarger.

 

One big advantage for the Fujinon is that I already have it.

The Rodenstock is an 80° lens and has a stated diameter of 352 mm covering power and this is can be expanded with stoping

down more then f 22!

A brief google reveals that the Fuji will cover 8x10 but just barely.

 

But most important is the question of whether it works for you! Try it out, put it through its paces, and see what goes.

 

Even if it vignettes a little bit at the corners with movements, you still might be able to get what you need and want from it with a little cropping.

 

As you say, you already have it. And I'm sure it's marvelous at 4x5 or 5x7. And if you decide you don't like it, you can always send it to me.

The sironar W is usually going to cost big bucks. Of course, that may not be an issue if you've got one lined up. I use my 210 fuji on 8x10 but it doesn't allow for much movements. If you don't want to limit your shooting style, get the sironar W. The fuji is fine for contact printing but i haven't made enlargements from it yet.

Don't confuse the different versions of Fujinon W lenses. <br /> The older single coated Fujnon-W 210/5.6 can be recognized by markings inside the filter ring, 58mm filter thread, and has 352mm image circle at f22. <br /> The next generation multicoated Fujinon-W 210/5.6 has markings outside on the barrel, takes 67mm filters and has an image circle of 300mm at f22. Although in the brochure this newer series are called Fujinon-NW, they're marked Fujinon-W lon the lens, like their older brethren, which is confusing.<br>

Anyway, if you have the older one, keep it by all means!</p>
