john_braud1
This is my first post, and I am far from an expert, so please bare with me. I have an Olympus E-500, 2 lens, kit (14-45mm\40-150mm). I was attempting to shoot at my son's football game and the 40-150mm lens refused to focus at 150mm. When I backed down to 100mm (roughly) it would then focus. I had the camera set to SCENE>SPORTS mode. When I shoot in AUTO mode the lens focus fine. It was sunny 85* humidity about 80% (If this helps) 12:30 pm. I believe I have the latest updates from Olympus for both the lens and camera. Any suggestions?? Thanks, John
brian_bahn
Which setting did you have the AF on? S-AF or C-AF?
john_braud1
I am at work and do not have my camera with me, but I believe it was on "S-AF". I will check and update what I find.
Tom Wiggins Photography
Sport mode is CF and I believe it can't be changed to S or M. What that the quality of light and was there an edge, (light/dark area in the frame that the AF could use to focus). I’ve had a similar problem with low contrast subjects. john_braud1
It had no dark spots. The picture was equally out of focus. It appeared to run the focus to one extreme.
brian_bahn
I've shot football only once so far so I'm not sure which mode, C-AF or S-AF is better for that but I will definitely say I think the 510 with the 40-150 definitely performs better in S-AF. I've shot Little League baseball enough times to know for sure S-AF works much better for that. But before I get too far off track I will stop because I'm not sure if that was John's problem or not. With C-AF it seemed like it was focused but the pictures were definitely not as sharp as when I would use S-AF andf anticipate and time the action. So afetr I that I'm not sure I heled John. Sorry. LOL.
