2 RING VS PUSH PULL

PP tend to get loose over time. They also tend to change focal length as you focus. Then again they are faster to

operate.

Rings are later lenses and perhaps are optically better.

My 80/2000 4.0 is an excellent lens, but goes a bit soft in contrast and resolution at the long end like every Nikkor I have

seen tests on. Supposedly one of the best in that range including the 2.8 models. My 55/200 Vr is the same at the long end.

The two rings definitely have the faster autofocus. They changed the gearing somewhere in the lifetime of the push-pull. I believe it was when they added the "D" function.

I'll bet it is. Which is bigger, you or that lens? My telescope is only about 2000mm f10, and it's over 100 pounds including the matching tripod.

I recently purchased a used 80-200 f/2.8 push/pull to use with my D80 for sports photography. I couldn't afford the two ring as much as I would have liked it, and I feel the push/pull is an adequate substitute. What is boils down to is that it still has a fast aperture, even though it's an older design, and the limit switch for focusing can improve the focusing speed.

If you can do it I would get the two ring for faster focusing, but you won't have any disappointments if you need to get the push/pull.

Good lens hunting!

Gabe.
