wellinghall
My T-32 flash unit seems to drain batteries when they are stored in it, even though the flash is turned off. Does this make sense? Is there anything I can do to stop it happening? At the extreme, I suppose I could alwaystake the batteries out of it when I put it away. Thanks Andrew
mabon_modron
I've used the T-32 extensively with no such problems, though re-chargeable batteries do tend to drain anyway even when not in use.
john_hermanson2
The T32 should have no battery drain when the switch is off. I'd first look at corroded battery contacts (caused by battery leakage). That could make batteries apear to be dead (when it is actally just a bad connection). I have found that NiMH charged in a fast charger last a much shorter time than if done in a slow charger. John, www.zuiko.com
harold_gough
The question is unanswerable in that no time scale is given. Stored for days, weeks, months, years? Also, how do you know the batteries have drained? How many flashes and on what power have you typically used? In other words, are they losing a significant amount of charge or a small amount? patrick j dempsey
I run rechargeable's in mine, and I've left the batteries sitting in the flash for a month or so between picking it up and it runs fine. Regardless, I went ahead an bought a second set of rechargeable batteries, which stay in the charger until I NEED to swap them out... which is typically a few hundred cycles. richard_oleson
NiMH batteries self-discharge when not in use, they generally hold a week or so between charges, and they get worse with age and use (and some are much better than others). If you're using NiMH, try them in something else to be sure it's not the batteries.
