ronald_moravec1
How do the following work on a D700/D3. 24 AI S 28 2.8 AI s, 35 AI S 50 1.4 AI S 85 AI S. 105 2.5 AI. Are there issues relative to being digital rather than film caputure? I am not a whole lot interssted in aquiring some lage heavy zoom like 24/70 or even auto focus for this camera. Just do the lenses work in a satisfactory manner.
juanjo_viagran
any AI / AI-s / AId lens will work on a D700/D3 just as they did film SLRs.. no crop factor as with DX DSLRs with the D3/D700 you can meter and use them in Aperture Priority.. you know that already before buying a D3/D700.. right..!!! ShunCheung
I assume Ronald is asking about how those particular lenses perform on digital vs. film, which was what they were designed for. I haven't used the 35mm/f1.4 AI-S on digital much, but the 24mm/f2.8 AF-D seems to work well on the D3, and the AI/AI-S versions have the same optical formula. ellis_vener_photography
I recently tried a 28mm f/2.8 AI-S on a D3 . Resolution was fine but I had significant blue fringing (Chromatic Aberrition). 50mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.8 AI-S Nikkors: no problems.

" that's what I tho.. from that list my fave is the 35mm 1.4 ( I have those in N-AId to AIS) is an AWESOME lens, remanid me the 28mm 1.4D. but all of those Nikon Primes with do great on a D3/D700, you need to put a very dad lens or be a very bad photografer to take a bad picture with that camera.. I have a friend's D3 for a month and man that the BEAST camera ever. enjoy it.

theodore_papageorgiou
Hello Juanjo. I wanted to ask about the 35mm f2.0, which I have, vs the 1.4 ,you mention above. Can you, or some other guy, tell me something about? Regards.
jose_angel
... and the 85/1.4 AiS works pretty good also, for portraiture (althought soft wide open, as expected). My main issue is to have the subject in perfect focus (I mean -perfect-). I need a lot of re-checks to assure focus. I didn`t used AiS widest ones on the D700 yet. The same for the 50/1.4 AiS, the 50/1.8 AFD is my D700`s cap. I didn`t found any drawback on the 35/1.4, I must say I have used it on the D700 just a little, and didn`t found anything to be averse. The 105/2.5 was so good on the D300, I suspect it will be the same on the D700. I have already download a lot of portraits made with the 24-70 wide open, and after a first sight my thought has been "looks sharper than the primes... ". juanjo_viagran
Theodore, I had the 35mm 2D and few MF (AId to AIS) and they are nice, only think I find is a bit of CA wide open...
wpahnelas
theodore, i use the AI 35/2.0 on D700 and get excellent results. i've also acquired 50/2.0, 100/2.8 and 105/2.5, and not only are they fine optically, they are a lot of fun to work with. DB_Gallery
28/2 AIS, 50/1.2 AIS and 105/2.5 are all outstanding on the D3/D700.
ts_photo
I use 45/2.8 AI'd and 105/2.8 AI-S micro on D3. They're both really nice.
My AI-S copy of the 35/2.0 may not be the best sample, with a bit
of CA and unsharp in the corners. My AFD copy of the 35/2.0 is
SHARP in capital letters, with great colors and contrast, and it's a
great all-around lens. Works well closeup and in crowds, at events, etc.
John Crowe
Absolutely nothing wrong with AIS lenses, I use 6 of them on full frame and crop DSLRs.
john_lai3
28mm f2.8 AIS lens works fine on my D700. I used this combo during my photo shoot at Coney Island before the closure :)
