de_v
Greetings, which digital back you think I should get for my rollei 6008i? the Hasselblad Ixpress V96C or the phase one p20 - both are 2nd hand sets speak up :)
Ed_Ingold
The Ixpress V96C requires an external power supply/memory unit or be tethered to a computer. The P20 is completely self-contained with a video cam battery and CF card, which is an highly desirable feature. Both have square, 16MB sensors, which give respectable performance. However if you can hold out for a rectangular 22 MB sensor (e.g., the P25), you get nearly twice the resolution of the square sensor if you crop to an 8x10 aspect ratio for about 20% greater cost (in an used unit). I don't know the operating details of the P20 (q.v., http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/p25-firstlook.shtml), but I have an Hasselblad CFV back with similar specs. I get 170 images per 4GB CF card and over 400 shots per battery charge.
de_v
thanks for the clarification, and now i've come up with another dilemma. Should I just stick to a DSLR for digital by getting the 5dmk2 when its released? P20 is a moderate digiback - i cant afford the p25 and further I'm unsure if theres a mount for my rollei integral for the p25, however what keeps me with the p20 option is the quality i get from my medium format rollei lense, absolute reason for this choice. But cost wise, I think it is more sensible by getting the 5dmk2 - and it has more megapixels. Lense wise no way it can compete with the planar, let alone the apo symmar 90mm! Viewfinder also, its just feels better shooting with the rollei prism and chimney viewfinder - bigger and clearer. I shoot people. Pls help with your inputs! ggriswold
I would stay with the Rollei and the great lenses. Try to rent or borrow a digital back if you are not sure. I think you will find the image rendition with the MF digital backs will amaze you.
