graham_thompson1
Suggestions please for a Nikon Macro/Portrait lens for a D300. Have a Nikon 16-85 and a 12-24. Very pleased with both. The 85 focal length seems about right but at 5.6 too much DOF. Portraits tight head shots. Macro - just for the ocasional flower! (Child of the sixties!). Thanks Graham. acbeddoe
Nikon 85mm f/1.8 AF-D: excellent lens, <$400 used.
craig_neuhardt
I have the 85mm 1.8 Nikon and in general it is good for portraits mounted on my D300. I also have Sigma 70mm macro 1:2.8 that is a bit on the heavy side, but seems to do a good job on the small sensor Nikons. I have used it for both portraits and some macro stuff and have been satisfied.
mark_sirota1
To do it in one lens, go for the new 60/2.8 AF-S Micro. The 85/1.8 is a great "tight head shot" lens for a D300, but then you'll need something else for flowers.
ianmaleny
The Tamron 90 f/2.8 is a very good macro lens which is also useful for tight head shots, and cheaper than most. Some claim that it is as good as Canikon offerings as far as image quality is concerned. A search on this forum should find a few user reviews. AndyMiller
How about the 105 or 135 F2 defocus control Nikkors or a 70-180 Micro Nikkor all three are excellent for portraits.
graham_thompson1
Would an 85 1.8 focus close enough for a flower (lets say an egg sized one) to fill the frame?
