casey_lewiston
What's the word that describes how things look when out of focus? I mean the way that geometric forms can be seen in the background with shallow DoF... the word could be used as "this lens produces good ____ ". Anyone? I'm blanking on this, and it'll haunt me. lex_jenkins
Bokeh. Prepare yourself for a long dissertation and conflicting opinions. This is a popular rag for chewing. Photographer/author Mike Johnston has probably written more coherently about this issue than all the rest of us put together.
steve_c.5
No dissertation here, but a lens that produces good bokeh is usually a "faster" lens, like one with a maximum aperture of f2.8, f1.8, f1.4, or even f1.2. The other element that makes for good bokeh, apart from good optics, is more blades in the diaphragm. The more "circular" the aperture opening is (as a result of more blades) the better the bokeh. casey_lewiston
I'm never going to remember that long term. Thanks.
James G. Dainis
Just don't confuse nisen-bokeh with bureh-bokeh. You will look very silly if you do. James G. Dainis
