oofoto
http://www.popphoto.com/photonews/5497 It reads: Canon’s newest flagship compact packs 14.7 megapixels, a 28-140mm 5x zoom, a 3 inch 460K pixel LCD and DPP- supported RAW into a familiar, but not identical body as its predecessor. By Jack Howard August 26, 2008 Canon has today announced the Canon Powershot G10 (SRP: $499), a 14.7 megapixel luxe-class compact digital camera as the replacement to the popular G9. The G10, along with the other compact cameras announced today, is powered by the Digic 4 processor. Key upgrades and features of the G10 include: -True 5x zoom wide angle lens (28-140mm equivalent.) --Face Detection can recognize profiles. -14.7 megapixel capture -RAW format files editable in Canon Digital Photo Pro (instead of ZoomBrowser/Imagebrowser like the G9) -ISO up to 1600 with binned pixels lo-rez 3200 scene setting -ISO dial now wraps around mode dial. -Exposure Comp has own dial to left of the hotshoe (where the ISO dial was on the G9.) The Canon Powershot G10 will be available in October 2008. Stay tuned to PopPhoto.com for a full test of this cool new compact camera. I'll be watching this one closely. Mainly for the IQ at ISO's above 200 and for the 28mm lens.
Greg M
Hopefully....as a higher-priced, higher end-user camera, the 28mm lens will be just *a little" better corrected than the bow-lined 28mm wide angle lens they put on the two Digital Elph models. Now, if they'd ever get back around to making it an f2-3 lens like they HAD when the G series was a more serious users camera, they'd have a great package. oofoto
Has to be a hoax. Canon would never give a dedicated exp compensation dial. For one it would be in the wrong place as the current G9 has a near perfect button press followed by QCD wheel to adjust which you can operate whilst holding camera with one hand. If it was a dial you would need 2 hands to adjust which is a backwards step.
anoop_shah1
As of 10:30pm EST Canon has not announced a G10. Thanks for getting my hopes up though.... -Anoop
davidlong
According to the Google cache, PopPhoto did have a G10 announcement, but they've apparently pulled it. Probably they just jumped the gun a bit.
bill_tuthill
No tilt/swivel LCD? The 28mm is nice, but my objection to wide-angle on the Elph models is not so much distortion as very poor corner performance (both toilet-paper softness and purple fringing). erick_kyogoku
Why does it *have* to be a hoax? (Hint: it might not be a hoax) The "current" G9 has been discontinued, and Photokina is fast arriving. PopPhoto seems to have slipped, posting the 50D and G10 announcements on the same day. Perhaps Canon wants to stagger their announcements to maximize the news cycle?
Here's a link to the original announcement slip. We'll just have to wait and see ...
If it is released I'll be the first to buy one.

josh_standon
I wonder how much noise this camera produces at the ISO speeds of 400 and above. That seems to be the sore point of many of these point and shoot cameras.
