5D & Ec-B Split Focusing Screen. Combatable?

I'm thinking about renting the TS-E 24mm to use on my EOS 5D. Does anybody know if the Ec-B will work in the 5D? Is see from

Canon's Web Site that it can be used on the EOS 1Ds Mk III.

The only problem is, if I should choose to manual focus, my eye is not that accurate with standard Focusing Screen that comes with the

5D. I'd prefer to use a Split Focusing Screen.

Thank you.

No, not as it. Haoda do sell a modified version of the Ec-B for $125. He made some changes to the stock Ec-B to

make it fit the 5D.

This Haoda modified Ec-B has been on my 5D for the last 2 years. However, IMHO, Split screen aid is not much use

when it come to tilt and swing. The two edges that you want to check for focus is offen at the two extreme edges,

not at the center. You will save some money if you simply change your screen to the made for 5D Ee-S for $35.

I have the same difficulty with manual focusing. Shortly after I got the 5D I found out about a company selling a split focus screen for the 5D. I installed it and have not had any issues with it. However I don't remember the name of the company and I am not at home right now. Perhaps someone else knows about it. If not I should be able to respond in a couple of days. I don't know if a 1Ds screen will fit in the 5D.

The Ec screens are not compatible with the 5D. The Ee screens are the ones for the 5D, and according to the most recent list of them that I have (from this past spring), there's no split focusing screen or anything similar in the Ee family. There is a super precision matte screen (Ee-S) which supposedly makes manual focusing easier with fast lenses, but how much of a difference it makes I don't know - and it's designed for best results with lenses that are f/2.8 or faster, which the TS-E 24 isn't.

A split screen is designed to give the most precise focus. Unfortunately, on the 5D, the optical pathways for manual focusing (on the screen) and auto-focus via sensors and then on to the imaging sensor are not identical. So even if the image is in perfect focus on the screen, it may or may not be in perfect focus once taken. I used my 5D with Canon's precision screen and viewfinder loupe - but did not achieve precise enough focus with my Carl Zeiss lenses. I sent the Camera to Canon service center, and they re-calibrated it to be "within their specs", this helped a bit, but still did not give perfectly precise focus. Quite likely the 5D MkII will have life-preview (like the 40D and 50D). This will be a most welcome feature for us manual-focus lens friends.
