5D and 50D

As the 50D introduction is approaching, other older models are coming down in price. I was wondering what experienced digital eos users think about choosing between the 5oD and the 5D. One is old technology but full frame and one is new technology but APS-C. And dome

cheaper but reasonable lenses seem to work best with the full frame so far - so they say.

which would you get if you paid similar price for a new one in each case?

Don't know whom they are, but I found FF frame more revealing of lens defects and thus favor more expensive L series

optics for my 5D. Most lenses are pretty good in the center but only the best are good at the edges. Indeed cheaper lenses

seem to fare better on my 40D than 5D.

Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see.

My thought at present is whether the 5d sensor picks up good light from the microlenses along the edges and coners, thus needing better Q lenses, will the newer sensors of the 50d and replacement 5d with the smaller microlenses and 100% coverage improve the images at the edges and pick up more detail with good non L lenses ? I have not seen a comparison of 5d/50d but still comes down to preferred FOV and feature set needed..:)

I don't know about the 50D, but I am using both Canon 5D and 40D. Image quality between these two is extremely close, if at all I find the 40D more revealing of lens flaws compared to the 5D. I am using exclusively L-type Canon lenses and Carl Zeiss primes with an adapter. I would chose between these cameras primarily based on the focal lenght of lenses you are planning to use. You need full frame, if you like wide angle lenses, and 40D or 50D can be used as a very nice, albeit a bit expensive, tele-converter. Both cameras cry out for the very best lenses you can afford!
