frank_gross
I have a Dell 2007 LCD monitor and a Mac desktop (OSX). I have the Eue-One Display2 My first question is: Can the selected input source to the monitor, either VGA(analog) or DVI(digital) affect the calibration, or the performance of the monitor, in any way? If I use the DVI input connector to the monitor then by default only the Brightness control is available (No Contrast setting). If I use a VGA cable then both Brightness AND Contrast is available. My second question is: Although I have the Brightness, and Contrast (when the VGA connector is being used) , dialed up to 100%, I cannot get the Eye-One Luminance Indicator to reach the desired target of 120 cd/m2. The max I can get it up to is about 85.3 cd/m2. I am concerned that this means I'm not correctly calibrated. Is this the case ? White Point is 6500K Gamma is at 2.2 My third question is: Can you tell me if there is a way that I can reach the 120 cd/m2 luminance level? Or is it a limitation of the monitor, and what does it mean to my calibration Thank you Frank
eugene_scherba
You should not be using VGA for anything if you have DVI.
frank_gross
I've switched back to the DVI cable & input. If i use the "Easy" mode then it easily surpasses the 120 luminace target and sets it at like 220. But the gamma and white point are off too. When I use Advanced mode I can get the Gamma to 2.2 and the White point to 6500 bu the luminance falls short by a mile. Any ideas ?
rffffffff
another way to increase luminenance is to increase the R G and B values evenly, i.e. if they are at 50 49 and 51, change them the 75, 74 and 76 and then recalibrate.... it will keep the color balance close, but the brightness higher. frank_gross
(I tried to raise all the RGB values to see if it'd increase brightness to no avail.) The thing that really confuses me is that if I choose the "Easy" (auto) calibraton mode then I get my target white point of 6500, & I get really close to my target gamma of 2.2 with a reading of 2.4, and I get a high of 204 cd/2. But, when I use the "Advanced" (manual) mode then I can't get the brightness higher than 20 something cd/2. even though it's at 100% on the monitor brightness controller. So the "easy" mode reading of 204 cd/2 tells me the monitor is capable. Is there a way of tweaking the saved profile to more desirable values? If you can tell me what the downside effect of having it as high as the 204 that the Easy mode creates. I think the downside effect ofhaving the gamma at 2.4 instead of 2.2 will make all my photos look a little too dark - is that correct ? I looked at the instructions for Eye Match 3.6.2 but I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong - can anyone point the way ?
