I am new to the whole website blog thing. I am a wedding photographer most of the time. Everyone tells me I need

blog to get more people to come to my site and know about me and my work. My question is... is there a free user

friendly website blog I can link to my site? My site does not have one. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thank

you Jill

One of the most compelling features of blogs is RSS, which is like a blog aggregator. It's like having an inbox for

everyone's blog posts. In order to effectively utilize that, your RSS feed URL ideally would be as permanent as your

domain name. You can use FeedBurner to create this semi-permanent RSS feed URL, which opens up a lot of

doors as far as what blogging sites might work out for you. If you try one and don't like it, you can try another

without impacting those users who subscribe to your blog via RSS. So first thing set up a FeedBurner account and

create a RSS feed URL. Then sign up for some free account (I use Xanga.com) or Blogger.com, or whatever you

like. Then start blogging something interesting as often as you can, and promote your RSS feed so you get some

subscribers, and people actually read the thing.

My favorite internet app right now is Google Reader. http://www.google.com/reader and I can't go a day without it.

Definitely give this a try, as this is what the blogosphere looks like to many folks who will be reading yours.

There are some additional links on my website (check profile) on blogs and blogging that you might like to read.

Also, expect to see an article on blogging for photographers in an upcoming issue of Rangefinder near you! :)

I'd go for blogger if you're just getting started. The minima template is very easy to tweak and customize yourself and blogger is free. I've tweaked mine quite a bit by myself - my blog. Some say wordpress has better SEO but I haven't done anything special in terms of SEO and my blog is consistently high in google ratings. there are many sites out there dedicated to showing poeple how to customize their blog - just search for them. If you need some help or have questions feel free to email me at colleenmdonovan at gmail dot com.
