Lens compatability, MF lens / 645AFD

Is the Mamiya 645 MF lens system fully compatable with the AFD body with film and digital backs?

I'm a Pentax 645 user that's running out of patience!

Are there any material differences between the Pentax and Mamiya systems? I use the system for

landscape/scenic photography.

As far as I understand, the Mamiya M645 manual focus lenses are all compatible with the 645 AF cameras and

digital backs, with the possible exception of the (relatively few) leaf-shutter lenses.

On the suggestions that you buy a 6x7 system, that makes sense only if BOTH (1) you plan to shoot significant

amounts of film and (2) you plan to use a tripod the big majority of the time.

Otherwise, compared to the Mamiya 645 system, the 6x7 systems (RB-67 and RZ-67) will (1) have more of a crop

factor with the lenses on a digital back (about 1.54 x instead of about 1.14 x), which will make it harder to get wide

angles, if you want them; (2) be heavier and larger and therefore harder to hand-hold; and (3) cost more.

yes the 645 Manual Focus lenses work on the AF and AFD bodies (still as manual focus of course). I can't speak to differences between the two as I've been wanting to try out a pentax 67 but can't find one for a price I'm willing to pay - I'm patient.

Regarding the RB or RZ 6x7 formats someone else mentioned, they are good systems but they aren't exactly handheld like a pentax 6x7 or 645AFD. I had an RB67 and while I loved the size of the negatives the fact that it lived on the tripod AND the waist-level finder really bugged me. Each has their own expectations I guess, so I upgraded my RB for a 645AFD on ebay. I'm happier and shoot more MF now. The RB I only shot 2-3 rolls.

The RB was nice, fully manual, no batteries and worked very well. But was so big and bulky that it was frustrating at times.
