Hello Everyone!

I'm an newbie, and don't know much about Nikon optics like lenses ect.

The problem is, I'm thinking about buying Nikon D300, and I need an urgent advice what lenses goes with this

model. Maybe someone could tell me how can i know which lenses are for which model. I would like Nikkor Zoom

lenses for nature, landscape photography, macros.

Requesting advice!

I would like good lenses up to 500£ if possible.

Thank u very much! ^.^

You can use any Nikon lens on it! Manual or Auto focus. There are 2 types of AF lenses, AF and AF-S. The AF-S are

newer and faster, they have a motor built in. The AF use a screw driver instead of a motor. you can use any type.

500 quids is about 1,200 USD, right? That would be just right for a AF-S 17-55 f2.8 G. One of my favorites DX lenses. It

is a high end lens.We were just talking about it yesterday: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00QQUf

Honestly that is what I use most, it is also built like tank. That set would get you started, of curse you can buy other

cheaper lenses, I recommend it coz is in your price range. I also think that a D300 deserves to be pair with a top class

lens. Rene'

I have both the Nikon 17-55 like Rene, and also the Tokina 12-24. Since you list Nature, landscape and macro as your interests, these 2 lenses really only cover the landscape aspect of you interests. It really boils down to how much of each that you do. Both of these lenese offer superb results on a D300.

Like Rene points out, the 17-55 is a high end lens (meaning expensive) if I were you, i'd go for the Tokina 12-24 AT-X, and maybe sink some money into a 300mm f4 Af-S, but i'm not sure how your budget translates into USD.

I can't disagree with the previous answer - but I guess my question comes down to what do you want to do and what are your long term goals.

It can be argued that for the same money you could get the 16-85VR, the 70-300VR and maybe even the 50mm 1.4 and would have a kit that covers a VERY wide range of situations.

For a landscape zoom I would look at the 16-85mm.

For macro I would look at a 60mm macro or longer.

For nature I would look at a 300mm f4 or 500mm f4 depending on what you want to shoot, mammals or birds.

For event or weddings I would look at a 17-50 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 zoom.

For ultra wide pick which zoom meets your needs – Nikkor or Tokina 12-24 the Sigma 10-20 or Tokina 11-16

A C.... If you really have no idea of what focal lengths you'll like, I think there's two approaches. Buy an all-around

lens like the Nikon 18-200mm VR that can compliment any top-shelf lenses you buy in years to come. Or buy a

something cheap and used like an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm with the intention of selling them in a bit when you

start to get your own understanding of what YOU like.

That said, Bob suggestion on the 16-85VR and the 70-300VR and a 50mm is a good one. The 16-85VR and 70-

300VR are in the middle of Nikon's quality hierarchy, and the 50mms are up there with Nikon's best. I'd make it the

50mm

f/1.8 instead of the 50mm f/1.4 for the 1.8's unbeatable sharpness, but those three lenses are a great kit.

I do agree with Joe. I personally have the D300 with 3 lenses so far : Nikon 16-85 VR, Nikon 50 f/1.8 and Nikon 70-300 VR. All those lenses are superb and I have no complaint at all. The 16-85, even at the wide end, does not have a lot of barrel distortion in compare to others lenses even with higher end, so this is a great lens, a little bit slow in the AF but sharp as a razor. What can I say about the 50 f/1.8 ? This is the best of all in sharpness and low light. I will never get rid of it for sure !! The other the 70-300 VR, simply, I do love it !! For portrait shots is excellent. I have shot pictures of planes flying at almost the speed of sound and I was able to freeze them using ( believe it or not ) the VR II on ACTIVE. The only lens that I may trade, is the 16-85 ... but just for the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8. I want to get one f/2.8 for the middle distance and probabley will be the Tamron but not sure yet. Once I get that, I will still need 2 more lenses, one macro ( thinking about the Sigma 150 f/2.8, however, I do prefer more tele like 200 or more for macro, so I am researching which should be the best ) and the Tokina 12 - 24 f/4. Once all those stay in my gear, I will be done, but again, those 3 lenses that I have, they are great so if you decide to go for them, I do personally believe you have something good to start with, unless you have plenty of "greens" in your pocket and decide to go for the 17-55 f/2.8 Nikon and other pro lenses that probable will cost you more than the camera. Good luck and happy shooting !!

Thank u all for your answers! It helped me a lot!

I havent decided yet, but I think I'll go with 70-200 f2.8 or 70-300VR. Hmmm...I dunno what the price for 17-55 f/2.8 hmmm..but probably more than 500 pounds XDD~~ Anyways, the shots looks great!

Thank u all for your answers!

Hey guys, me again xD

So I've decided on lenses, BUT, when I went to check them, i got confused. I want to try these lenses:

http://www.jessops.com/Store/s66332/0/Lenses/Tamron/70-300mm-F4-and-56-DI-LD-Macro-(Nikon-AF)/details.aspx?&CatId=269&SortBy=SkuOfferingPriceASC&IsInStockOnly=False&comp=y

but in the product description it says:

Lens Fitting- Nikon AF, Nikon AFS,

And on the camera, Nikon D300:

http://www.jessops.com/Store/s35924/0/Digital-SLRs/Nikon/D80-(Body-only)/details.aspx?&IsSearch=y&pageindex=1&CatId=481&ManIds=1462,&SortBy=SkuOfferingPriceASC&IsInStockOnly=False&comp=y

Lens Fitting- Nikon AFD

Does it mean, the lenses won't fit?

Please help ^.^

The lens kit the Mauricio mentioned is a great (perhaps the best) starter kit for the D300. i.e. 16-85VR, 70-300VR and 50/

1.8. The only substitiution that I might make is to replace the 50/1.8 with the 35/2, since it offers the traditional "normal"

perspective.

I know that Nikon 70-300 is the best, but the price like 350 £ are a little bit too much for me, if I can't buy Tamron, I think I9 will have to buy Nikon 55-200 which I don't really like...>_> but I'll have no choice if that Tamron lenses don't fit... So ANYONE?
