Business Practices when covering a club/party event

I have a business practice type of question. I am working on my very young Photography Business and recently

encountered a situation that I need advise on how to handle.

Recently I photographed an event in agreement with the Event Host. All of the event photos are viewable on my

website, hosted by SmugMug, but restricted to purchase only. Now, one of the guests of the party is upset that

she has to purchase a photo through my website. I have already given permissions for the Event Host to use my

photos at no charge, but is it wrong for me to charge the guests for these photos?

What are your thoughts?

I don't see why this is any different from a wedding at which the bride and groom receive a CD, but you offer image for sale

online as well. Obviously, the Event Host could make prints for his guests, but the proper assumption is that he doesn't

want to be bothered with that responsibility; this is why you make prints available for sale.

Hi,

Nothing wrong with charging for the photos you took....

But, to clarify, is the party guest upset about having to pay for a photo, or is she upset about having to buy online?

If it's just the latter, maybe you can accomodate her in some other way.

If she's objecting to paying for a photo at all, she's just a squeaky cheapskate who should take it up with the Event Host, not you. She probably won't get any invitations to future parties!
