Picture of the Week, 8/3/08

shots worth sharing

Recommended Posts

I guess I'll take a turn at kicking this off.

On Friday, I put the canoe on top pf the car and Clara in it and headed up to the Potomac near Sharpsburg. I

decided to take the camera, too--albeit with some trepidation. I was in the right frame of mind though: I wasn't

after serious photograph or serious fishing or even serious canoing--just a fun day outdoors with Clara. I got

it--we had a very good day. I'm happy to report that the camera survived: I didn't shoot a lot and was very,

very careful when I took it out of the dry-bag to shoot (and even managed to keep the *outside* of the dry-bag

perfectly dry.) I took the 21mm but never used it--just went with the the SMC A 70-210mm.

Here's Clara casting over one of the world's finest stretches of smallmouth bass water.
00QNvx-61571684.jpg.974e0a1836a333aceca7f58da815d116.jpg

Dave, that fishing spot makes me cry.....

Been really too busy, and I still have a stack of photo’s from the hollidays for postprocessing…. Somehow I have some fresh images to squeeze in.
I would like to spend more time on this forum, if I had the time. As it is I spend too much already on the local club (footo.nl), not to mention the pp, and my wife and kids complaining….
Anyway, here’s my share for this week and I hope you like them.

Dave, I like the picture with Clara fishing and is a perfect example of a great shot ruined by the humidity. I find it so frustrating sometimes

that you could have a great shot but the air is so thick. I guess as photographers we need to learn how to deal with it, but I haven't figured

it out yet. I have several more night time train shots to post but i'll refrain. I will include one for Miserere since he always wants it in black

and white. The other two were shot in Chester County PA.
00QNwk-61575684.jpg.c60fbc0dc122db4e7ec99b034d5ae88a.jpg

Dave, Clara's the best dressed fisherperson I've ever seen! Cool shot. O Shiva, the pipe shot is my fave.

I love the smaller size of the *istD fitted with a prime lens compared to the K10D a lot. The *istD equipped with

the Pentax A 24mm did so well as second body at my last wedding shooting. I do miss a few things from the K10D,

notably SR and instant histogram review with clipping warning. After all the "sweet stuff" I photographed for

money I just had to take something a little differerent this week :-)
00QNxA-61577584.jpg.ca502797d8bae991779eb4f08169f30e.jpg

Dave: Nice fishing scene. So inviting!

O Shiva: You're obviously the Macro Master around here! Punchy colors.

Robert: Train station scene is my favorite.

Doug: A room with a view indeed. Great composition & superb colors!

Markus: Seems like Wilma's expecting... Cool shot!

Dave, I love the first shot. I show smaller size but with 2 extra to share. First pictures was taken with

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and the rest are taken with DA 50-200, mounted with the tamron 1.4x TC for testing.

I very much enjoy ALL the black and whites posted so far, and it's been WWWAAAYYY too long since I last used

my fly rod and my kite building skills, so it's great to see the pictures. Markus... I love Wilma!

I'm posting a couple grab-shots that I quickly edited. We drove all night to get home from the political rallies in

Florida (I live in Ohio) It was hot, humid, and bright, so my photographs wound up a little too hot.

My polarizer and ND filters had been left safely at home, sitting on the desk :0(

Wow, great pics already. My favs are the first fishing one, the cathedral (?), and the night station.

I've been to Viña del Mar for a daytrip this week and took a picture of the pier. The two others are my first

attempts

into doing some serious dark sky imaging since I went digital.
00QO4F-61619584.jpg.c252aa91c0d2af67f220b8c8fbcaaa1b.jpg

Wow. Great stuff all. Will hold off on commenting for a while.

My first is the post typhoon clean up on Monday. This shot also demonstrates the amazing saturation especially in greens with the K20. This was shot in RAW, and I have not touched the colors in PP.

The second I took at a buddhist monastery mid-week.
The third I took this morning on a walk. They were working on the rice fields. Just felt right in a more antique kind of light.
