john_robison3
What bag? If the weather permits it's a cheap vest with a few big pockets. Standard kit: Olympus Pen f, 20mm f3.5, 38mm f1.8 and 100mm f3.5 Zuikos, Vivitar 2X, 43mm yellow filter, few rolls of Tri-X, Sekonic L-28c. If its too hot for the vest (75 degrees for me, I don't do heat) then I stuff the stuff in a bag. This is the kit I grab the most. If I want to be real light then its a Pen S 3.5 and eyeball exposure. If I want a bigger neg I have OM stuff. Bigger still? Mamiya C220 and some lenses and prism finder. The Mamiya needs a tripod for sure and I have a gitzo that should be in a museum (or scrap yard). Every once in a while I get real weird and just slip a Mamiya 16 or Minolta 16II in a pocket. For the past 10 days I had a Olympus E300 but its going back to KEH tomorrow, bad sensor. Someday I'd like to learn to really see, and stop taking crappy pictures. pensacolaphoto
My times of using a huge camera bag with SLR equipment are over. I now mainly use rangefinder cameras and lenses, and even the smallest camera bag is large enough for one camera and three lenses. It is a great relief, and it allows me to nearly forget about having a camera bag to haul around.

photo5
Raid, I *never* haul my camera bag around, it sits in my closet. I go out with one lens and one camera body, maybe a second body and lens if I need it (usually a film camera along with my digital), but most of the time I do not. The last time I hauled a camera bag with me was when I was shooting weddings, and that was many many years ago. Plus, it's stupid to haul or carry a camera bag. That bag says "HELLO! There are expensive things in here, please steal me!" When I need to haul gear in a bag, it is in a normal bag, not any kind of camera bag. mrstubbs
I've heard women can be like this when they talk about their purses too! Now...what i'd really like to talk about camera straps...do you boys like the nice thin ones ...or the big chunky butch type? #/;~)=<
myrjola
The short answer is "it depends" :) But a somewhat usual set might be something like 10-22mm, 17-40mm f/4L, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.2L, 70-300 DO, 200mm f/2.8L, a polarizer, Cokin grad ND filter + holder for 77mm, cable release, a couple of memory cards, a lenspen, plus the camera body itself. While going on vacations etc, one or more 'redundant' lenses will stay home. Haven't had any theft attempts so far, I guess I'm ugly enough to scare potential thieves. phoenixphotography
I have two bags, 1. LowePro Slinghot 100. 2. Kata dr - 467 The slinghot is for quick trips, going down to town, nipping round a friends... anything where I wouldnt be planning to shoot anything, But obviously theres always a chance. With it being such a small bag, I usually take my d300, and a good all round lens, used to be a sigma 28-200, but more recently a Nikon 18-200. And if i'm going to be out long, I can then fit in a decent top-flash, spare battery for cam & flash, mabye a longer 300mm lens, and obviously a few memory cards. With the Kata 467, This is much more my work bag, If i'm intentionally going somewhere for a shoot, then The 467 is great due to the shear ammount of stuff I can get into it comfortably, tomorrow I have a publicity shoot at a local bowling alley, and my bag set-up is pretty much the usual.......... - Nikon d300, with nikon 18-200 lens attached. - Sigma 28-200 & 70-300 Lens's. - Compact spotting scope with T attachments - Laptop with charger, cf card reader, bluetooth mouse - mini Portable printer, with spare ink cartridge and a few packs of 6x4 paper - Topflash with spare batt's - charger & spare batt for d300 - 3x 2gb cf & 1x 4gb CF (memory cards) - pens, notebook, a ton of business cards - manfrodo monopod It all fits in well leaving just enough space for a can of coke or something, Usually I wouldnt always have the printer & scope which gives me lots of space for lunch, a jacket, or any other extras I need to have on location

matthew_newton
My bag is top loading, so its hard to show how it is organized. Its a lowepro Nova 2 AW. Depending on where I am going and what I am doing I carry (left to right with 3 inserts) Vivitar 70-210/3.5 series 1, Tamron 28/2.5 and Oly OM-1n with Tamron 35-70/3.5 attached, Sigma 24/2.8 and Zuiko 50/1.4. The zip liner on the top of the flap holds a shower cap and a large ziplock freezer bag and wide angle adaptor for my flash. The front pocket contains a 49mm polarizer, 58mm polarizer, 49mm len hood, 8" cable release a couple of spare zinc-air batteries and a few film canisters. That is my general kit. If I am doing more indoor type stuff I'll change out my Vivitar 70-210/3.5 for my Vivitar 285hv and a set of spare batteries. For city vacations (Europe, New York, etc) I'll change out my Tamron 28/2.5 for my Sigma 28/1.8 for the extra light gathering. I don't have room in my bag for it, but I'll sometimes take my Vivitar 300/5.6, Sigma 400/5.6 or vivitar 2x teleconverter if I think there might be an opportunity for wildlife shooting. I'll just shot those in to a backpack which I carry my camera bag inside of as well.
aginbyte
When PJ and I travel to Europe for five weeks the bag will contain 2 Canon DSLR bodies (5D and 20D), EF 17-40mm f/4L USM, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, TS-E 24mm f/3.5L, EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, with 72mm and 77mm filter packages (circular polarizers, .6 and .9 ND) with good neutral glass on each lens. Also in the bag, two remote cords, four extra batteries, a dozen CF cards (2GB+). A side pocket holds lens cleaning equipment, a small pocket flash, screwdriver kit, glasses holders, connection cables, etc. We live out of that Lowell Pro shoulder bag! Leroy_Photography
I've watched this forum for some time and realize that the judge of a good photographer is his/her equipment. Just for good a laugh, I decided to empty my camera bag. But I'm not going to yeild to peer pressure--this setup suits me just fine: (1) Nikon D80 with Nikon 70-300 mm lens (for sports); (2) Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens (for low light sideline); (3) camera handbook (just in case I get stumped); (4) lens cleaning equipment: blower (LOL!), brush, lent-free cloth; (5) spare battery and image cards; (6) website cards (parents always forget where to find the photos); (7) medical stuff - Bandaids, Benedryl, Gavescon, Imodium, and Kleenex (the mom in me won't let me leave home without them and, YES, they always come in handy). BTW, I stole the backpack from my son. It suits me well while I'm traipsing the sideline. I know, I know, you need some Kleenex now!<div></div>
chelsea
I'm not laughing Laura, only we women can properly pack a bag, having had the practise of carrying purses around all our lives! ;-) Let's see...start with the old beat-up Black's generic bag that someone gave me when he got tired of seeing me with the even more beat-up old generic camera bag I had before. Camera is the Canon Rebel XT, sometimes accompanied by the Elph digital. Lenses are the cheapie kit lens that came with the Rebel, plus the 100mm Canon macro and the 70-300 DO IS zoom lens. Brace yerselves guys...I have the MANUAL in the bag! And even refer to it sometimes in the field! (Pause for a moment as we hear the audible gasps) Other Stuff: A linen dishtowel, notebook and pen, cleaning stuff (papers, bulb dust blower), bird call, ziplock bag containing an assortment of elastic bands, twist-ties and clothespins (holds back grasses, branches, etc.), gold-foil sided card from a chocolate bar and a couple pieces of gold-coloured foil from coffee bags (reflectors), matches, Swiss army knife with an assortment of gadgets, one of those folding plier-thingies with an assortment of tools/gadgets, pocket-sized emergency poncho, 3 big plastic garbage bags, a comb (one must tidy up when coming across male photographers out in the middle of nowhere) tiny bottle of Muskol in a ziploc, couple of diet bars (the kind that tastes like chocolate-covered sawdust and last for a century, one never knows when one might actually get hungry enough to eat it), spare batteries and memory cards, fish knife, (probably landed in there during one of my fishing/photo trips down the lake), sometimes the cellphone and mini-first-aid kit, As for camera straps: Give me the big honkin' wide straps, the thin ones cut into my neck and give me a headache. Same with vests, have yet to find one tha doesn't cut into my neck when loaded down.
alanmac
Got a dual compartment Tamrac ( 7 I think...) Main compartment holds: Canon 5D, 75-300 IS Lens, 28-105 Lens, 17-35 Lens, 100mm Macro, Sunpak AF 5000 Flash, Filters, Lots of Batteries and CF Memories Cards, remote trigger, cleaning gear... Top (secondary) compartment: Battery charger and power lead, Card reader, Jacket and gloves (when it's cold) snack bars (mine taste better than chocolate covered sawdust, Rose-Marie, though only just) note book, pen/pencil, stuff... Give me wide camera straps too!
ceci_wong
My Bags: 1 Lowepro Fastpack 250 for long and out-of-town trips; 1 small, very beat up, ugly, generic green canvas shoulder-bag (inserts inside) for walking around the Los Angeles area My Stuff: Nikon D50, Nikkor AF 18-70mm DX, Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D (my fav), Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8, Nikon AF-D 70-210mm f/4-5.6, Canon SD1000 (a point-and-shoot), cleaning kit, first-aid kit, swiss army knife, USB cord, battery chargers, extra SD cards, kleenex, small hand towel, travel-size packet of Wet Ones. The Lowepro holds *everything* comfortably, but it looks a tad large on my 5'2" frame. The ugly green bag usually holds the D50, the 18-70, and the Nifty-Fifty. keith selmes
The bag doesn't get used very often, but, in the bag ... mpp, helier 15cm, apo tessar 30cm, no name Petzval<div></div>
keith selmes
But I normally use a belt and a DSLR - keeps some weight off the backbone, has everything to hand, allows for carrying a lunchbag or rucksack separately as required. The army surplus pouch is exactly right for Cokin P filters and a compass. Not so good in town or indoors, bur very good out in the country.<div></div>
