Nikon Speedlight on a Canon EOS-1N ?

Recommended Posts

Nikon Speedlights from the SB-10 forward are typically around +5V sync voltage. It should be fine, but if you want to be absolutely sure, measure the voltage between the center sync contact and the ground of a fully charged flash with a voltmeter.

Canon instruction manuals will always warn against using anything other than a Canon flash. Coincidentally, Nikon instruction manuals all warn against using anything other than a Nikon flash. See a pattern? It's a CYA statement for warranty claims.

But if you do decide to use it, cover all but the center sync contact (either on the flash or on the camera hotshoe), as TTL communication protocols are obviously not compatible.
