Sams club prints

Jeff has a very good point. Sams Club is a subsidiary of WalMart. They both practice business practices that allow them to not have to pay for benefits, like health insurance. Why do you care? Because to do this they make everybody in the store with the exception of the management part time. That way the state they are in cant make them offer benies. The kid working the photo dept. today wont be the one working it tomorrow. It'd be a crap shoot at best.

Wow, so much hatred for Sam's and Wally World. I happen to like low prices and they're not holding any of their employees hostage. They're free to go get one of those $50/hr jobs with full benefits that don't require any sort of education - because there are so many of those job available.

When I lived in the States, I got prints and Sam's, and was very happy with them. The girl that ran the Fuji machine was more than happy to follow my instructions on how to print the pictures, and I had much better luck there than at Inkley's (a Ritz store).

"The girl that ran the Fuji machine was more than happy to follow my instructions on how to print the picture"

All Stephen has to do now to be ensured of good quality Sam's Club prints is move to the location where the Fuji girl works and hope she is still there.

If the machine at Sam's Club is a Fuji model, the back imprint will have two sets of numbers. One number will be the sequence (1) (2) (3) and so on. The second number will the either DSC0000001 or whatever file name your camera uses. If you print from a CD, you can re-name your images and maybe 19 or 20 characters will print out (without spaces.)

Hope this helps?

C'mon Sam's Club isn't that bad. Where I'm at, a lot of photographers (professionals) uses them. Ones with studios too. My sister frequents it. The photo department knows her enough to know what she needs done. She's actually made friends with them. We even shot a wedding for one of the staff member who worked there. I have to admit that the 4x6s are crap. But like Stephen says, they're proofs. For anything bigger than 8x10, they have the Epson machine to do that which I prefer. And believe it or not, they actually comply with copyright laws too. If the pictures looks professionally done and someone tries to make a copy of it there, they won't allow it. (If they catch it)

Yes they do print the file number on the back. Or you can tell them not to. If you want to be discrete...

Mike you say: "I have to admit that the 4x6s are crap. But like Stephen says, they're proofs."

Couples only know what they have and if it is proofs - they should be as great a quality as possible! They'll judge you by those proofs. They order based on those proofs. Reputation is based on those proofs.

If they are crap at some of the Sam's Clubs I would be leary of using them. Just because one or two people happen to have a decent lab worker does not mean they'll all be that way. Personally, I only use a pro lab and only one that is up to my standards.

I understand that Stephen only asked if Sams puts numbers on the back of the "proofs"...

But Stephen - You can't blame people who have had bad experiences from warning you or giving an opinion about the quality. In my opinion they are doing you a service which you can accept or reject. I agree they didn't answer your question though ;-)

If all you really wanted to know was if they put the number on the back or not, why didnt you just give them a call?

As to wether or not they are worth the time, it's consistancy that most are talking about here. When nobody works

more than a 20 hour work week and the photo dept is open 80+ hours a week then you may or may not find

somebody competent behind the counter. And I doubt that the manager of that department knows a whole lot about

photography, but I could be wrong there.

But hey, if you want to get your "Professional Quality" prints done at the same place where you buy your 5 gallon

mayonaise jars and your tires, be my guest.

At both Sam's clubs I have used, they put a file number on the back. If they give you a disc, though, the file numbers are sometimes reversed (#36 may equal #1), but there will be a roll number. If you really want to know, just call the Sam's club you are going to use and ask them. The Sam's club I use has had the same employees now for about four years.
