Tele-Elmarit 90mm

Recommended Posts

I bought the latest version Elmarit-M 90mm f/2.8 for only slightly more money. I consider that lens to be my best ever bargain in Leica equipment. It offers biting sharpness, negligible distortion and light fall-off and neutral bokeh.

For portraits it can be slightly too sharp, especially is the subject does not have a flawless complexion. So I tend to use a Zeiss Softar 1 to take the edge of it but without making it look dreamy.

This lens is no longer manufactured, although you will still find Leica stores with one in stock. Its replacement is the Summarit M 90mm f/2.5. I have not tried the Summarit, but it sells new for about 25% less than the Elmarit-M 90mm f/2.8.

Hi Chris, please that was a joke! Keep posting questions as I'm a new guy and all of the answers you get are interesting to me.

Today I goofed off trying to take photos of hummingbirds with a goggled 135 Elmarit 2.8 with an MP. I sat up the tripod, focused on some flowers, sat on the grass and got bitten multiple times by some bugs on the butt and played with the pooch. A few minutes later a bird showed up and without bothering with the VF, I got 10 shots off. At 2.8 very close up, I don't know if any will be usable. On K64 I get to wait to find out.

And to think you could be shooting instead of debating lenses...

Good luck!

My thin TE is more likely to go on a trip with me than either my chrome 90 Elmarit, or my 90AA. Yes the other two are a little sharper, but the TE is such an ideal travel lens. And you really have to look for those small differences between it and my other two. The differences don't jump right out at you, and if the camera is not on a tripod, they may not even be visible. The only drawback is flare. Do use the full-size 12575 hood, not the shorter hood from a 50 or 35.

I also prefer the Thin TE, due to size and weight.I use it a lot on my CL and it is simply a wonderful package. There are mint

examples to be found at very good prices.I believe that there were some cases of a problem on the rear lens but if checked

out well it isn't an issue.

here a snap from the CL&TE
