crystal_brown1
I just got my D200 a couple of weeks ago. I had no problem with my picture numbering on my memory card (it would just continue on to the next number after I deleted them off of the card). Now when I clear my card, it starts back over with numbering and I am having problems with overwriting pictures. Does anyone know how I can change this so that I do not overwrite more pictures? It is supposed to go from 000 - 999. I took pictures on Sunday and then deleted some off of my card for Monday and it gave some of the pictures the same number and they overwrote pictures from Sunday. Thank you so much! photo5
I had this problem too when I first began testing the D200. The item is buried in the menu system and a little hard to find. I had to read the manual to find it and I can't remember off hand now where it was. But frustrating to say the least! I am sure some photographers want to start over but it's a lot easier for me to have the numbers continue on. I don't have the manual or the camera now so I can't look it up. When I get my new D70s today or tomorrow it will be the first thing I change. I'm surprised Nikon left this as a default, most people I know want the numbers to continue where they left off. joseph_smith3
I resolved this problem by using Downloader Pro from Breeze Systems. I use the user defined "Job Code" and tokens to renumber each image at the time of download to avoid the problem you mentioned, plus a lot more. I also believe there is a way to avoid the problem by just reading the D 200 manual carefully and entering some stuff into your camera. More info here: http://www.breezesys.com/Downloader/index.htm It is free for 30 days. Works on windows machines. Joe Smith

aaron_lee___minneapolis__m
Inam, I fail to see how that DPreview page helps Crystal any. Crystal, I can't remember exactly where that menu item is, but it will be in the recording or shooting menu, or in the custom functions. I think it is called "Image Numbering" If you are over-writing files, that is definitely a user mistake!! Every OS I've seen (unless you are using a linux or unix command line) will tell you that you have files with the same name and ask if you would like to over-write them. Make sure you read those error boxes a little closer! Better yet, I would highly recommend getting a Mac with iPhoto or using Aperture and those two applications will basically make it impossible for you to over-write your images.
