jonlewis
Hi, I've currently got a Canon 400D with which I have learnt the basics. I now have the money to upgrade, I've left a few other posts about lenses which have been really useful and now I want some feedback on bodies. I want to stay with Canon but i'm not sure which body would be most suitable. I want the camera primarily for wildlife photography. I have read that the 5D is too slow for serious wildlife photography and more suited for landscape and studio work. When I purchase the camera it will be for the long term, so I want to get something which will be suitable as I develop my photography skills further and not something I will "outgrow". I have the funds to puchase the 1D MIII, but would like some feedback on how the 40D / 5D etc compare to this for what I want to do. Any advise and opinions on this would be appreciated. Thanks, Jon

jonlewis
Haha, I've been working abroad for the last year so i've got some extra cash which I didn't have a couple of years back. It's either more money on photography or another motorbike, I'm safer sticking with photography (or am I?!)
ken munn
My inclination would be to stick with a crop body and benefit from the 1.6 x 'magnification' factor that gives your lenses - thus a 300mmm becomes the equivalent of a 480mm on a full frame body, but costs you considerably less (and is much more portable) than a 500mm lens would be. The best of the crop bodies at the moment is the 40D. Only if you want to produce really big blowups would I suggest going for the ID Mk111, where the extra pixels will make a difference. manuel barrera houston,
If the 400D is working fine, I would agree with Peter that you may be better off with better and longer glass.
steve torelli
Wildlife photography benefits from the smaller sensor, get the 40 for the extra reach unless you can afford 1DMK III. I believe they have the same pixel count. Of course, for less than the price of the 1DIII, you can get both the 5 and the 40. The 40 for your wildlife shots and the 5 for every thing else. Good luck.
