Graflex Speed Graphic Graphex Shutter Sync ?

For flashbulb use (11, 40, 2,or 22) where do I set the shutter sync ? On the red M

or the white M setting ?

I think I figured it out... maybe. The red M setting is for the shutter speeds marked in red and the white M setting is for the shutter speeds marked in black. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks, George

These appear to be Ilex Acme shutters, it this is so:

 

0 ms delay, Red, or X (electronic flash)

 

5 ms delay, White, or F (gas filled flash bulbs, duration is 1/200th)

 

20 ms delay, Blue, or M bulbs (0,5,10,2,22 etc, these bulbscan be flashed on 110 AC,BUT NOT THROUGH THE SHUTTER!)

 

20ms delay, or M or long peak for focal plane shutters, 6 or 31, 35mm FP, Med Format FP, or Graphic/Graflex FP shutters

 

30 ms delay, Yellow, S or slow peak, works best on open flash ( 3, 50)

 

I still use some of these shutters.

I just joined graflex.org and I'll be posting as the need arises. Seems like a very informative group from what I've read so far.

 

I also use an Ilex Acme No.5 on another camera and the sync info is very handy to know.

 

This is the shutter sync selector switch in question... M, M, F-X, Off<div></div>

Here's the poop on the sync settings from the Graphex Shutter Service Manual.

 

I'm answering my own questions... :-)

 

F-X = 0 millisecond delay.

 

M Red = 8-12 millisecond delay.

 

M Black or White = 16-20 millisecond delay.

 

OK... now it's time to flash some 22's and distribute some cookies.

George, get a copy of Graphic Graflex Photography. An edition near 1952 is a good

choice. These large books are "the Bible" for Graphic and Graflex cameras, and are

readily available used. They had chapters written by the top people in the field. (Ansel

Adams wrote the printing chapter.)
