kmwnphoto
Hello, I'm running an Epson Pro 4800 under Mac OS 10.4.11, latest version Epson drivers, etc. Typically I'm printing through a ColorBurst RIP, but on occasion I print direct from an application right to the printer (bypassing the RIP). I am wondering if anyone knows a good way to "cancel" a print job once it's already started spooling/printing? For example, I just printed a 6 page (17" x 30" page size) job and after the first page started coming out I wanted to cancel the job and make a modification to the file. The print job is sent to the Epson 4800 (from InDesign) and I can see it processing in the OS print window. It finished processing and starts spooling/printing. It's at this point I want to cancel the print job (the job is still spooling and part of the first page is printing). I stop/delete the job, but this does nothing and the job continues to print. I also reset the printer, but nothing. As soon as the printer resets, it starts printing again. I even tried shutting off the printer and turning it back on again, but it still continues to print (once it's booted back up). The only way I can "cancel" the job is to stop/delete the job, actually turn off the computer and reset the printer (at the same time). Once the computer reboots, the job is "cancelled", but this was a pain just to cancel the job.So, I'm wondering if there's a better way to cancel a print job that someone can suggest? Thanks,Kristin. patricklavoie
ever try the real method? the little printer icon on your dock is where the job is process and spool. Click on hold to stop it, delete to delete it. The icon appear when there is a job in process.
ace_fury
<I>ever try the real method?</I><P>The "real method" is described by Kristin. What don't you understand about "stop/delete the job"? <P>This problem has popped with OSX and most users think has to do with a buffer overrun. I have no idea if that is the reason nor do I care, just want to work. It has happened to me with OSX 10.4.x and ended up thrashing everything Epson and starting over. Never happened with OTR so it must be a Epson/Apple spat. BTW, since going to OSX 10.5.x I haven't had the problem, knock on wood.
JAPster
Check the LCD user interface on the Epson plotter, and/or the owners manual. There should be a function and/or button there to "Cancel Current Job". Pressing that button or selecting that function should cause an immediate "cease and desist" on the job at the plotter. After that you might also have to perform the steps recemended by Patrick and Ace, to stop the job in the spooler, and cause the Mac to flush to cancelled job from the spooler queue. kmwnphoto
Hmmmmm, maybe my original post was really confusing? Maybe people aren't reading the post in the first place? I'm not sure. Anyway, I've been printing on the Mac since v7.5 so I'm pretty sure I'm trying the "real" method. And, I'm pretty sure I've described the process exactly, which is also the suggest way Epson instructs to "cancel/delete" a print job (page 80 of the SP4800 User Manual)? Maybe I'm confused? Anyway, for anyone else in this situation, I've sorted it out. It turns out the computer I was working on had had the printer added via Bonjour. So, I deleted the printer and re-added it via Epson TCP/IP (with a static IP assigned to the printer). For some reason, there seems to be a bug (confirmed by others) in regards to canceling print jobs when setup via Bonjour. As soon as I shifted to IP-based, problem solved. Whew, now "the real way" and the Epson manual work as advertised... Regards, Kristin.
