nathan_wong2
Hi, This is for anyone that has a 80mm f/2.8 CF lens. I finally got around to buying an 80mm Hasselblad CF lens. I noticed that when I choose f/2.8 and fire the shutter that the aperture blades close ever so slightly and there are four blades showing. Is this normal? On my other 'blad lenses when I choose full aperture I don't see any blades. Thank you for letting me know. Nathan
antonio_a.1
As long as they dont affect the light path then you are OK. If not there is something wrong.
q.g._de_bakker
Nathan,

It is indeed normal for all 5 (!) aperture blades to show very slightly inside the aperture at f/2.8.
The aperture blades in some other Zeiss/Hasselblad lenses do the same. nathan_wong2
Ah, thank you for the replies. I was going to bring the lens in for service. That might be a good idea anyway, but at the moment I just want to use the lens instead of having to wait for it to come back. Thanks again. paul_gardener
With older "C" lenses this partly closing of the aperture blades happens more often. The effect is also stronger. In general nothing to worry about. In more serious cases it can be corrected with a CLA.
q.g._de_bakker
You do not want to have it "corrected" with a CLA, because it is supposed to be that way.
When releasing, or using the DOF-preview, the diaphragm closes down to the actual aperture size. And in some lenses, that means the blade close a bit, even when set to its widest opening. For instance, f/2.8 on an 80 mm lens must be f/2.8, even if that is not fully open. paul_gardener
Closing a little may be right for CfFlenses for older "C" lenses it is not right. No use to make a fuzz about it. Just mention it at the first service the lens gets. And yes it can be corrected!
joseph_krause
Nathan, Unless you are using the camera daily, the best servicing you can do for this lens (and any other CF lenses) is to connect it to your Hasselblad body on the first of each month and run though each aperture stop and exposure speed. There are lubricants in the shutter which require friendly conversation on a regular basis. Best, Joseph
nathan_wong1
Hi Joseph, I definitely do the "exercising" of my lenses on a regular basis. I was just a little confused with the aperture blades showing just ever so slightly when stopping down to f/2.8. I don't think I've ever seen that in any lens other than this one when shooting at its widest aperture. Thanks again to everyone for their helpful insight.
