tim_schultz1
Hi All, I just purchased the D300 and find the images won't open in CS2 like the images do from my D200. I did install the Nikon Capture software (which I find slow and not as useful as Photoshop). The error message in Photoshop states, "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." Has anyone had this problem of images from the D300 not being opened in CS2? Thanks!
paul_sokal___dallas__tx
The latest version of ACR which is necessary to open D300 files only works in CS3. As an alternative, you can convert the raw NEF's to DNG's and then you can open them in CS2.
sngreen
If they still give support for CS2, you need to update your camera raw, http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows Or update to CS3. - Sergey
Jerry_
Nikon Capture running slow sounds like your computer needs a "memory" upgrade to add more RAM. And a lot of "reserve" hard drive area is a plus for any image editing software.
josh_standon
I had the same problem with my D200 and CS1. The older versions of Adobe's converter do not support the newer digital formats. I converted my D200 images to Adobe's DNG format and everything worked well. I have taken a good, hard look at images in Nikon's origina RAW file format and the DNG format and I can see no difference. My prints show no difference. josh_standon
Oh, Adobe's DNG converter is free. Just download and run.
ronald_moravec1
Up grading to the last raw converter supported in CS2 will not solve the problem. Get an upgrade to CS3 and the latest ACR will support the D300. 4.3 I think. Alturnative to CS3 is free DNG converter from Adobe. Convert the NEF files to DNG. It will open in ACR. DNG is a UNIVERSAL raw format now used by some small manufactures like Leica. We can not continue making new raw formats for each new camera. The problem is convincing Nikon and Canon. I am now saving NEF and DNG raw files. The $200 upgrade to CS3 is worth it as it is a much improved converter with more controls. I would not want to go back to the CS2 converter. nolan_ross
Adobe is not going to offer the plug in for the CS2. They prefer you to buy yet another expensive program (CS3) that they will not support for very long. But if you still want to purchase stuff then Lightroom would solve your problems (not positive on that) or you could go back to elements 5 or 6 and there is a plug in available for those to open your D300 RAW files. sngreen
I would not advice to convert NEF fiels to DNG. It is my only opinion, but I do believe Capture NX is an ultimate tool for Nikon files and, very unfortunately, once converted to DNG there is no way to go back to NEF. Please someone correct me. - Sergey
tim_schultz1
Thanks everyone. The one thing I can't find in Capture NX that I use in CS2 is the White Balance adjustment. Is it there and just named something else?
sngreen
WB in NX (from Edit List pallet) 1. Base Adjustments -> RAW Adjustments -> White Balance. At this point it is somewhat similar to most of the imaging applications. There are some good tutorials at Nikon site, http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/index.htm Capture NX is here, http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/software/capturenx/nxsp/tutorials.htm - Sergey
