Canon 50 1.8. Mostly, I'm chasing my girls around, and I can always count on this lens. I was in Vegas back in January, and my wide angle failed me (very old), and I relied almost solely on my 50 1.8, and actually came back with some nice shots. I also like it because it forces me to think more and move more than using a zoom, so I feel that my photography improves. Guess it's time to look at a couple of more cheap primes.

My favorite lens that I own is the 100-400mm IS zoom.

My favorite lens that I use (too occasionally) is split between the 300mm f/2.8 IS and 500mm f/4 IS.

I like them all for the same reason: they work great for action and aviation photography.

24-105 on a 5D. It's just the best compromise I've ever found between image quality, zoom range and weight, and the IS puts it over the top (for me, of course). I almost never take it off the camera.

I use it to shoot almost everything, though in truth, aside from travel photos, I mostly take pictures of my dog...

70-200 f/4 L on my 1.6x cameras. Just love how superbly the lens separates the subject(s) from the background and make the former stand out. Being a hobbyist on a limited budget, this is the most expensive lens I've ever bought, and it's turned out to be a fantastic purchase.

Only own a 30d, so that narrows my [practical] selection considerably. For me, it's the

Sigma 30mm 1.4.

If I had a bunch more money, I imagine I'd rather enjoy the 24mm 1.4L, as I've seen

and used it a bit on a 5D, and it absolutely lives up to its hype. I wish there were more

wide 1.4 options for cropped cameras.

On my EOS 1: EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Portraits with B&W. Incredibly sharp and

great back-ground blur.

On my 20D: EF 28mm f/1.8 USM (no longer own either) After you correct, for the

CA. Great Contrast. Very nice walk around lens. Nice for snap-shots, Landscapes

and a portrait here and there.

On my 5D: EF 17-40 f/4L USM Incredible lens for Landscapes. Sharp and great

contrast. CA performance is very good.

EF 35/1.4. It's not the most useful lens in the bag, but on average I like more of the shots with it than with any other lens. It's probably a combination of the availability of an extremely short depth of field and the potential to get natural light shots with very little available light. It also forces me to get closer to the subject than I would normally feel comfortable with. I think that slight discomfort on my part is actually helpful.

Its amazing how so many people use such a different array of lenses. I think I

expected more 17-55's and 24-70.

For me the 1 lens I always fall back on is the Tamron 28-75 2.8. Fast, good for most

anything except wide angle on my 40D but a good performer that is pretty versatile.

I always consider upgrading to the 24-70 but can never pull the plug on it. I think I will

always keep it as a good walk around or backup lens.

Chris, I think thats a great point about how you have to move around with the 35 1.4.

Everyone should own at least 1 prime, it changes your approach on how you should

take a photo.

It has its drawbacks, but I find that I shoot more with my 17-85mm IS lens than with any of the other lenses I own. It, like the 28-whatevers on the full-frame cameras, it is just so handy.
