ike k
Hi all, It's been a while since I posted on medium format forum (I sold my Rollei 6008i gear back in 2004 to went digital) but as you all know there's always something about MF that I can not really forget) well I decided to go back to MF again and this time I have a very good opportunity to get a very nice set up. So a local photographer wants to sell his gear as he's about to retire, anyway he's offering me a very clean condition 503 CW (two years old, original owner )with few lenses in excellent plus condition as follow: 80/2.8 CFT, 120/4 makro Planar CFi T, 180/4 CF T, 60/3.5 CB T, three backs latest A24 (two of them ) and one E12 back, also PM45 prism finder, Metz CL45 flash with adapter and couple Lindahl shade system with filters. All those he wants to let go for $3200, I really need to let him know in couple of days before he decide to go to local photography store. So if you guys think that's a good price pls let me know and I think it's good chance to me to enjoy MF again :). Thanks all! I appreciate any inputs!. Regards, iKe
ilkka
I think it is an excellent price if the gear is really in a good condition. In rough, round numbers, the body and normal lens and E(or A) 12 back would be easily $1000. The two long lenses could be $800 each. The shorter lens a bit less. The rest of it would be basically free.
evan_dong1
Ike, That is a very good price, considering that you have (2) of the newer lenses (120mmCFi & 60mm CB), 2 newer A24, the E12 back, the PM5 prism and the Metz flash with the adapter. The condition as he stated, if accurate, would help with you decide once you see it. Good luck.
derek_stanton2
I'd say it depends on what you want to do. Do you really WANT all of those specific lenses/accessories? Will he let you choose from them? If you don't want them all, do you intend to sell the pieces you don't want to use? I'd weigh the total package price against those factors. If this photographer wants to sell his items to a store, he's probably only going to get 40-60% of what the store would then sell the items for. I always check ebay prices and then cross reference them with KEH.com. I expect to pay slightly more at KEH, as they have return privileges and guarantee the equipment for a period of time. $3200 sounds like a very nice price. ike k
I use to have 60, 90, 180 lenses on my Rollei and that's why I know I'm gonna like this set up for portrait and group shot ( I'd probably add another lens 40mm). So yeah, I think I'm gonna take it as he's a good friend of mine and I can not really offer less money than store would (roughly he said $3k) so I guess his price for me a very decent one I believe. alexander_illich
Now that is a very good, reasonable price for very new lenses and equipment. A 503cw with a 80 CB lens will run you around 1900$ with shipping on ebay. With a CFT maybe 2100$. I would jump at it if I had 3200$.
charles_mason
Just one though--A24 backs are essentially worthless now, since there ain't much (any?) 220 made anymore. Certainly not a selection of films, if any.
simon_platt1
Hi there Whilst it is true that there are not many 220 format films still made there are some and if you like what is available they are still useful. In particular I use Fuji Reala in a 220 back and I believe that there are still some black and white films also. Simon
jenny_jaques
Charles' comment about "there aint much ..." is simply shooting from the hip with nothing useful to contribute. There are enough 220 films to make those mags really worth having. Get the outfit. What are you waiting for. It's an absolute bargain.
q.g._de_bakker
<i>"There are enough 220 films to make those mags really worth having."</i><br><br>Depends on what you understand "enough" to mean, and what film you like to use.<br>There are very few 220 emulsions left - two made by Kodak (one B&W negative, the other colour negative), one i know of made by Fuji (a slide film - do they make more?), and that's it.<br>On top of that, 220 film is more expensive per frame than 120 film. So though the emulsion i use most (Kodak Portra 160 NC) happens to be among the few remaining, my A24 backs are mostly gathering dust.
charles_mason
I bet $5 there aren't any 220s left in a year or so, so stock up! 120 will be around for awhile. So my point that 220 backs ain't worth much still stands. 120 backs would be more valuable.
l_a_k_h_i_n_d_e_r
Ike, you got over Hasselblad pretty quickly ;-) http://www.photo.net/gc/view-one.tcl?classified_ad_id=711794
bill_palmer2
Looking at BHPhotoVideo's website, I see the following 220 offerings in stock: Print: Fuji Pro 160C Fuji Pro 160S Fuji Pro 800Z Fuji Pro 400H (out of stock) Kodak Portra 160NC Kodak Portra 160VC Kodak Portra 400NC Kodak Portra 400VC Kodak Tri-X Pan Professional (320) Slide: Fuji Provia 100F Fuji Astia 100F Fuji Velvia 100 Kodak Ektachrome E100G Kodak Ektachrome E100VS Kodak Ektachrome 100 Plus Taking just one data point (Fuji Velvia 100) a ProPack of 5 rolls costs $41.95 and $20.95 respectively for 220/120, so while the 220 offering does cost more, it's only a penny a roll, and that is swamped by the price break for E6 processing of 220 vs. 120 at my local places ($10/$6). I think the trend is clear that 220 offerings will continue to diminish, and that one would have to be quite a salesman to expect to turn a profit buying and selling A24 backs at this point :-) A quick perusal of completed transactions on the big auction site suggests you probably would still have to pay $60-80 for an A24 in decent shape plus shipping. It's not like they are completely useless if you can't find any 220 film, either; just put 120 in them, and accept the possibility that you may only get 11 complete frames. q.g._de_bakker
As Lakhinder pointed out above, we're no longer talking about pieces Ike is buying, but already about pieces Ike is selling.

chunin_martinez
You can use 120 film on 220 backs. Just have to remember that you only got 12 exposures and not 24.
q.g._de_bakker
<i>"Just have to remember that you only got 12 exposures and not 24."</i><br><br>And that - due to frame spacing issues - you then actually do not even get 12 exposures.
