Hasselblad Winder CW Problems

I tested a Winder CW and it fired every time apart from the camera body. I

then put it onto the camera and it's misfiring. It is firing sporadically.

It has brand new batteries. The remote works. Push the button and the winder

may or may not fire whether you use the remote or the button.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Anybody have thoughts or a solution?

Since it fires every time off of the body then what does that probably tell

me? A problem with the body? A problem with the gears in the Winder?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

You might try cleaning the electrical contact points on both the camera side and the winder side, particularly the ground pins. Sometimes electrical devices that connect together can start acting flakey if they see an inconsistent ground voltage. You can use one of those secretary 'typo correcting' pencils to clean the contacts. Those are the ones that have a slightly abrasive rubber core on the point end, and a stiff nylon brush on the erasor end. Just scrub the contact points using the rubber point, to try and remove any surface layer dirt or oxidation that may be preventing good contact between the two parts.

You might also try changing out the batteries in the camera, or giving them a fresh charge, and then trying again.

Ken,

Have you tried resetting the electronics?
(Attach the winder to the camera, take the film magazine off the camera; set the winder's mode selector to any mode other than "L" or "RC"; remove the battery holder from the winder; press the release button for at least 10 seconds; insert the batteries again).

Alan,

I take it you don't have a Winder CW :-)

No electrical contacts/connections between winder and body, and the two bodies that accept

it don't have any batteries! I agree that your suggestions would be worth trying if the system

did have such connections, however.

Alan mentions points that apply to the early winder for the 2000 FCW and 2003FCW.

That winder is the only one with external contacts to the body.

The later winder that was designed for the 200 series does not have these contacts.

The CW winder has no contacts to the body either.
