smw-jmw
I am just about to take delivery of a new D300 and have come across some information about a Nikon download for Picture Controls for the D300: D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, and D2XMODE3. Has anyone tried this download, and if so is there much to be gained over the default controls. Here is a link to the Nikon site regarding this download:- http://nikoneurope-en.custhelp.com/cgi- bin/nikoneurope_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php? p_faqid=23567&p_created=1195651840&p_sid=xImmsSRi I would be intersted to hear any thoughts on this. bruce_rubenstein___nyc
When shooting JPG, they are intended to match the look of D300 images to images from the D2x. Useful if you're used to D2x images. Might be useful if it turns out that you like the processing parameters that they give you , even if you don't need to match a D2x
elliot1
I tried them out and prefer the look of the D300's default Picture Controls. I use the Standard setting for outdoor shots and the Neutral setting for flash photography. Since they are easy to install, why not try them out and see which you prefer - you may decide you like them.
berg_na
I picked Mode 1 based on the description given by Nikon and have no complaints about the results:<br> <ul> <li>D2XMODE1: This optional Picture Control simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Color mode setting of I. Skin tones and gradations are reproduced naturally with rich reproduction of tones;</li> <li>D2XMODE2: This optional Picture Control simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Color mode setting of II. This optional Picture Control is suited to images that will be extensively processed or retouched;</li> <li>D2XMODE3: This optional Picture Control simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Color mode setting of III. Choose for nature or landscape shots. Greens and blues are vividly reproduced.</li> </ul>
wpahnelas
just for yucks, you can use the all the picture control files in ViewNX -- apply them at will and see how you like the results. i find it quite interesting to how the variations change one's perception of the work.
