linda_kusch
I will probably be sending my 70-200 2.8 lens in to the Canon service center this week to tighten some screws that I can't seem to tighten myself. This will be a simple fix but necessary. My question though is this: Is there anything else that the service center should/could look at in terms of routine maintenance at the same time, or should lenses only be tampered with if they are not functioning properly? I am fairly new to the slr market and not sure how to properly maintain this very sophisticated equipment. Thanks for your advice.
m_barbu1
Why not ask them, since it's going there anyway?
zml
Tell them any specific issues you are experiencing with the lens and ask to clean the glass (they'll do it anyway) and calibrate the lens to factory specs.
mark u
In addition to any dealing with particular issues you raise, Canon will perform a CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust) pretty much as standard. Think of it like a standard service on your car.
roger_smith4
"Think of it like a standard service on your car." Except that your lenses may never need such service over their lifetimes.
savagesax
Canon will give you a set price just to look at it. They most likely will not just tighten the screws, but do their automatic, which will cost. Expect to spend around $150 or more just for Canon's routine service, so you may wish to call them first before you are shocked at the cost!
