bob_metzler1
I downloaded the new v1.1.1 firmware upgrade for the 5D from Canon's site & attempted to upgrade my body from 1.0.5 but got an error message. Tried three times, finally decided to try another CF card. First one (that failed) was a 4 GB Sandisk Extreme III. I then tried with a 2 GB Sandisk Ultra II and upgrade worked fine. Will be interesting to see if others have similar results.
picturesque
The instructions say you need a 2GB or 8GB card.
PuppyDigs
I used a 4 GB Sandisk Utra II and it worked fine the first time. Maybe your card has a glitch. My LCD lost the warm (yellowish tint) and looks neutral now. This benefit isn't mentioned in the PDF. Did your tint change? Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
bob jr.
I used the extreme III 4gb disk as well -- no problems
stephenwagnerphoto.com
I used a 4Gb and no problems. And Puppy Face... Now that you mention it, the colors of my LCD changed too. Mine, however, were too blue before. Something was wacky with the AWB, though fine when viewed in lightroom.
picturesque
Can't say my LCD tint changed. If it did, it would be very, very minor. I did handle two 5Ds, though, and the first one had the yellowish LCD tint while the second one didn't. I still have the second one and just did the upgrade. It would be more toward the bluish and still is. Perhaps it is the particular batch.
alanrusso
I used a Sandisk Extreme IV 4GB card with no problems. Did you reformat the card prior to trying the upgrade?
colinsouthern
I'm wondering if the 4GB card that failed to allow the update was formatted to use a non-compatable disk system?
thierry nguyen cuu - nomad
Have you guys noticed how fast the batteries drain out with the new firmware? I updated my firmware as well and both of my batteries in the grip are drained out after 300 shots... May be it's just a coincidence but I used to pull out more than 1 000 shots before recharging the batteries.
PuppyDigs
MAybe your batteries are starting to go. If you bought the 5D in 2005 or 2006, you're at the end of service period of the 511s. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
andre_stull
No problem with my 4GB card. Hey, my LCD does look better too! Haven't shot enough to check battery drain yet..
