qi_peng
I kinda like the new abstract, dreamy Leica story on their website... http://www.leica-camera.com/?mid=330 which is rather fascinating... like the marriage proposal via Leica although how many girls will fall for that? Anyways, either I like or must have drunken too much ralph gibson lately. Anyone else dig it?
sattler123
I vote for the overly consumption of alcohol on your part:-) I find it horrible - really! It conveis zero information, is very elitary (if that is a word) and seems to suggest that only the rich and beautiful people use a Leica. Bad, bad Marketing, but that's not unheard of a german company.
leicaglow
Yeah, this is more my style. I think I'm in love with a Leica M6... yeah, yeah, that's right. The Leica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzqqpy7_xPI

ronald_moravec1
Why not. They are not trying to appeal to poor people or those who would buy a used one.
peteradownunder
The stitching on the guy's lapels when he is proposing bothered me - as did the fact that the model using the M8 and Noctilux couldn't hold the camera level in a posed shot. <p> I liked the concept..looking forward to different stories more girls next time wearing less please, less square jawed mannequins who don't know how to dress. jtdnyc
I doubt they will sell one additional camera because of the fluff they've added to the site. All it will do is make people who just want lens specs click away from the entire site in frustration. Having the music come on automatically is especially annoying. leicaglow
For Leica, it's all about brand development. It makes people like me weak in the knees to buy more Leica stuff because of the quality and simplicity of the design (whether it be their website or their equipment). On the other side of the coin are NiCanOlymPenTam companies that have rebates and incentives to buy now. They both have their place, but the closest thing you see to a Leica promotion is a new line of f/2.5 economy lenses.
jtdnyc
Agreed, Michael...but I wish the elegant simplicty of the camera and lenses extended to the design of the website. Having to install the latest version of Flash to see a site that surprises you with unsolicited music is, to my mind, very un-Leica-like.
leicaglow
That's true. Actually, I've yet to see the story because it takes so long to download, and I've got a pretty speedy broadband connection. I might have waited for it to load, but after about 5 minutes of the music playing over and over I bounced away from the site.
scott squire nonfiction
Wow, I've seen a few references to this new presentation, and only now tried to view it. What a trainwreck! It's all composited studio photography, animations are slow and herky- jerky and pixellated, and the navigation is utterly inscrutable. That's a waste of a pretty good chunk of change, building a useless (less than useless, if it leaves most users with a bad taste!) presentation like this. Why don't they concentrate on simple, beautiful presentations about/by folks who actually use their cameras to do good work?
terry_rory
Got to agree with Pete about that young chap's tailoring. If he can afford an expensive camera he can afford to have a decent coat made.
