b_n_f
As part of my reimmersion into film shooting, I brought out my GT-E (latestversion, last version with gray crackled finish.) It was stored in a leather pouch, open on the top sides for ventilation, in abreathable camera bag with 2 silica gels in the bottom (of the bag). The body, frankly, is very sticky - almost enough so to feel similar to a movietheatre floor - enough to think that you should wipe your hands after holdingit. (The stickiness does not actually transfer.) I am certain that nothing was spilled on it. So, what could this be? I amafraid to rub on it as I have the impression that the glittery finish will come off.
ilkka
At some stage, Minox used paint to cover the plastic housing and at least in tropical climates that paint got gooey and started to peel very quickly. I had a camera like that and returned it to Minox after a week when it was already in quite bad shape, esthetically speaking. I have used an old Minox PL for years (decades?) with no such problems, until the shutter gave up. Then I got the latest (?) grey version which is also better, not painted. subminiature
This seems to be a problem with the finish. I have the same problem with an M*142, a DC1311 digital and a brand new CD150 lost it's texture finish before I used the first film in it. Although my GT-E II has not yet worn off the finish I expect it will soon enough and then look like a poorly looked after camera even though it has only been used a little and always well protected. b_n_f
Thank you. It's a shame, but not really surprising. Still sticky, still leaving "glitter" behind on any surface except damp hands.
jeff_drew4
I have one that is doing the same thing. My solution was to put it in a fitted case. Except for the sticky feel, it works great!
