patric_james
Hello, I am currently in Europe and need to purchase a brand new Leica MP + 35mm f2 lens with UV filter ASAP, however I would like to find the best price for the kit. Would anyone be able to tell me which country in Europe is the most reasonably price (in Euros) for new Leica M cameras? If so, any advice on a particular shop in that country? I am in Paris at present and it is very easy to get to any country in Europe so the travel is not an issue for the best price. I would really appreciate any knowledge any of the members might be able to provide. Thanks, Patric.

didier
in Paris, you can go to Boulevard Beaumarchais near Bastille where you have a lot of photo-shops. Among them you'll find "La Maison du Leica" which has everything for a Leica nut, but at official prices. If you buy for 'export' you can get the VAT back, which amounts for 19.6% in France : prices will become more interesting ! Avoid Meister Camera (formerly called Leica bei Meister) in Hamburg, Germany : I had a bad experience with them last year, when buying through their website. cheers Didier. b_n_f
I would 100% contradict the Meister Camera experience. I've been buying from Martin since he ran the business out of the Parfumerie. I've only ever received first rate service (circa 6 seperate purchases over the years) - including a no questions asked exchange for a new Minox that arrived faulty. I just bought a used M lens from them, and they still include the Haribo Gummi Bears. :-) I also have had good experiences with Foto Hepp in Konstanz and Foto Koch in Düsseldorf. You're going to have a hard time, IMO beating German prices on the continent. I think you may have an equally hard time finding a discount... though I did get 5% years ago from a purchase of 2 lenses at the factory.
christer_almqvist2
Paris photographers call the Boulevard Beaumarchais Boulevard des Voleurs (thieves). They refer to the shops then... I have dealt with Meister (bought and sold) several times and I have always been completely satisfied.
nzdavid
Leica bei Meister in Hamburg was good; both service and prices. Steve at Ffordes Photographic in Scotland is very helpful. Ditto Leica Shop in Vienna.

richam
I've had good experiences with Foto Hobby Rahn in Frankfurt. You can check out the website and call ahead if you wish. Frankfurt is a major transportation hub for Europe, so getting there should be easy. le_roy_wirthlin
The Leica Shop in Vienna is first rate and I have had good experience there. There is also a great Leica shop in Munich off the Marienplatz. Had good luck there as well.
didier
Dear Christer Almqvist, your judgement about the shops Boulevard Beaumarchais in Paris is yours, but I don't think you can apply it to the shop I did recommend, as it is the official Leica Shop in Paris. (La Maison du Leica). As far as Meister Camera is concerned, I did hear a lot of good things about them before I had my own, bad, experience with them. Good gear hunting Patric ! raymond_tai
I was in Brussels maybe 6 months ago and wandering around the neighborhood near the boy pissing in public I stumbled into a camera shop with a very nice looking Noctilux and WATE in the shop window. I recall that Noctilux and hood was super cheap at under 2000 Euros.
