My new Fd kit arrived today + a 2 ?s

Well today it arrived, And I can't beleive what I got

 

Canon F1

Power winder FN

speed finder

24/2.8

50/1.8

135/3.5 macro

135/3.5-4.5

200/2.8IF

each lens has a new UV filter

SC focusing screen

cable release

off camera flash cords

a further 7 UV and polarizing filters all like new

Canon one touch bracket

various camera straps etc

 

All lenses are in excellent condition with 1 minor hickup

 

All of the above for $650AUD about $500USD what a bargain.

 

 

Now the 200/2.8 is missing the silver lens release knob is that an easy fix?

 

I have 2 50/1.4s can the ring that releases the lens be taken from 1 50/1.4 and

be put into the 200/2.8??

 

And secondly how can you tell a F1 from a new F1?

Oh! The old F1! has a little lever on the front. Self timer lever or what ever it is called.

Sweet defiantly doesn't have alever on the front of the body.

 

What about the silver release knob on the 200???

 

I don't want to put the 200 on the body in case I can't get it off.

Yes I got a great deal just going through closed ebay auctions I am confident I got it at about 1/3 its real rate. I did no haggling just asked a few questions was from a deceased estate and paid what they wanted.

 

Reminds me of when I found 400 Phantom comics in a sealed box worth over $15000AUD. Gee I was pi**ed for a week after selling them. I tell you.

nicely done, you got yourself a mighty set! If anything is labelled FN on the body accessories, it means it is a F1New!

I think the release knob is pretty standard, so it should be possible to removed it from one lens to put on another. However, I would rather take it from one of the lesser lenses, like the 50/1.8 ou the 135/3.5 who are worth next to nothing, instead of the 50/1.4 who is worth around $100. ;-)

Three main F1 iterations: F1, F1n and the New F1. The first two are closely related, easily distinguished by the typical clock-work self timer lever on the front. The second is the one pictured above - is totally unrelated, newer camera. Both are great, I am partial to the New F1 myself, but both are great cameras. Just to clarify, the camera pictured above is not "called the AE" - it is still a New F1, like any other. The _prism_ on it is the AE (for auto exposure) finder, which allows simpler, more transparent use of apperture priority automation. Great cameras all, enjoy.

Sorry, but this is not quite correct. Both versions of the first model F-1 have the same self timer lever-the change between styles on this was only made on the FTb.

 

Overall, there were 13 changes made from the first F-1 to the second F-1, most of which are not externally visible, or otherwise difficult to recognize without have the camera in hand.

 

The big external difference I always look at is the film advance lever. On the early version, it was made from one solid piece of metal, and had a completely flat profile from the top. The second version has a plastic tip on the end of the advance lever, giving it a lump in the middle. The one pictured above is the second version.

Depends how you read it - I read it as "the first two are easily distinguished FROM THE F1 NEW by the etc. etc." not as "the first two are easily distinguished FROM EACH OTHER by the etc. etc."

I'm sorry if I gave wrong information. The way I said it is the terminology used in japan. The

first picture they call it F-1 (before), the second one they call it F-1(after) and the last

picture they call it F-1 AE. Sorry, I didn't know how you classify them in the States.

For me the easiest way to recognize the original F1 from the second version F1 is the later version has film reminder slot on the back cover. Too many people get confused about the 3 versions of the F1 as to where to place the "N" and whether to capitalize it or keep it lower case. The depth of field preview button is a definite giveaway for the final version

Jeremy, you're correct that it could also be interpreted that way, and on a second reading your interpretation seems most appropriate.

 

In any case, though, here is the terminology used on the Yahoo Canon FD group to distinguish between the different models.

 

F-1 refers to the original model F-1 with the one piece film advance lever.

 

F-1n refers to the revised(13 improvement) F-1 which is mostly identical to the F-1, and whose accessories are interchangeable with the F-1.

 

F-1N refers to the latest revision, typically called the "New F-1" in Canon literature. With the F-1N, it's also common to specify which finder is mounted and in use-such as "F-1N with plain prism", "F-1N with AE finder", et cetera.

 

As said, this is the terminology I will use, and the terminology which Mr. Mark Whalster, your other moderator, uses. Of course, by posting on this forum, you're certainly under no obligation to follow in this same vein, although if everyone were consistent much ambiguity would be removed.

Today i picked up a 300/4 Non L in mint condition for $150AUD and just missed out on a bargain grade 500/4.5 with 1.4x and 2x converter for $600AUD. Seller had another buyer take it 10 minutes before I talked to him.
