18-200 Nikon DX lense slide

This is called lens creep. Nikon probably won't fix it. I sent my lens in for this and other problems, and the lens creep was exactly the same. You can compensate for it by putting four strips of electrical tape on the most-extended end of the barrel, parallel to the length of the barrel. That seems to add enough friction to minimize or eliminate the creep, at least for a while.

It's a really annoying "feature." Some lenses ship with no creep, but most have creep.

yeap, mine sure does it, didn't when it was brand new, but has been starting. it's really only bad from about 35-70, I'll take a picture, point it down to look at it on the screen, then go back to take another one and it's zoomed out on me. Just one more reason why I am considering selling this lens.

There is an easy "fix" to this unfortunate and annoyingly common problem. You can get a

rubber gasket (sort of like a round super rubber band) at a hardware store and slip it over the

barrel of the lens and position it on the joint between the zoom ring and the barrel. The

friction will keep it from creeping. It makes the zooming a little stiff, but it works!
