Once E02 Minilux is repaired.... is it good to go?

Ciao

Once a Minilux has been serviced to fix the E02 error, is it then a reliable

camera? Or, does the problem persist, just at a later date?

Lastly, are there any model series differences or improvements with a black

version? (Later model?)

Thanks!

Mine had the E02 error 5 years after I bought it, it was 4 years ago and no problem since. But I have to admit that I don't use it so much since, 50 rolls at maximum when I want to have a better quality than with my others pixel toys.

I also have to say that I'm always stunned with quality of the pics that this camera provides even after so much years, I just wait for an equivalent in digital world.

Hi folks,

i've bought my Minilux some weeks ago, with E02 error included, because it wasn't expensive and i thought i could open it to find out the error.

In fact, the printed ribbon cable to the shutter has a really thin crack (that's what some people refer about E02). The cause is not the objective movement what i suggested first. There is a Letter stamp at the cable back which seems to cause the crack after some years - right, that's absolutely bad technical design. I asked Leica Germany for repair and got the answer: the whole shutter will be replaced, costs are 300 Euro (!!!) with one year guarantee. Hm.

The problem itself seems to go on. The printed ribbon cables are damageable, but Leica doesn't replace the cable by a better one. At my point of view one should use a Minilux as long it works, it is a good camera, but not good enough for a 300 Euro repair.

I will try to repair it by my own, allthough i don't believe i really will get that brick work again.

Bye

Wolfgang

I always steered clear of the Minilux 40mm because of this problem. Instead I used a Contax T2 (a more than capable alternative and tough as old boots with a great 38mm Zeiss Sonnar lens)

I also owned the Leica CM. I was lucky to have avoided the first production run of the CM that suffered from some quirky battery level indication behaviour (but was recalled by Leica for a free factory fix and the 'bug' eliminated in subsequent production.)

My CM was serial number 2950862 and was from the later production (no bugs) so if you decide on a CM check the serial number. Later than mine and it should be fine.
