andrew_dodson
I just got this killer deal on the Tokina 28-70 f/2.8- I bought it used from Adorama for $99! I was really pumped- I just it today, and optically it really is great- I haven't gotten to in depth yet to determine how sharp it really is- but I noticed that the lens was hard to zoom in and out. I have the Tokina 12-24 which I bought brand new, and it zooms very smoothly. The lens is pretty beat up around the edges- but are there self repairs that can be done to make the internal zoom more smooth? Thanks!
eskoi.pohjanpalo
Is it perhaps so that the lens is in MF-mode?You can change it to AF by moving, pressing the outer focusing ring to foreward to the AF. Sometimes it needs to be rotated to find the right place for moving it to AF. Then the lens works perfectly, at least in my both Nikon cameras, F5 and F100. dennismk
Maybe that is why you got such a great deal on the lens. This is a great lens! Half the price of the Nikon, very well built and very sharp.Been using this lens for 7yrs and love it.
elliot1
Adorama had a rating system to let you know the condition of used items. How was it rated? If it was rated incorrectly, you can probably return it.
andrew_dodson
It was rated at E-.. the guy on the phone told me the lens is in good working condition- just cosmetic flaws... I have 14 days to try it out before I can't return it anymore- so we'll see- thanks!

astral
I have several ATX Tokinas and all zoom (and focus) smoothly. One is the early 28-70mm 2.8 (72mm filter + orange band) and it's still fine after almost daily used for 10 years or more ... A great lens BTW. phototransformations
Glenn, What's the typical turnaround time for repairs at THK Photo? A Tokina 12-24 that I purchased a few weeks ago is on its way back to you for adjustment, as it turned out to be much softer, especially around the edges, than other copies I've seen. It arrives January 2nd. Thanks, David
glenn_nash1
David; Typical turnaround time is approximately two weeks. If this is a warranty issue, then you will not hear from us, we will simply repair the lens and return it. If it is not a warranty issue, then we will contact you with a repair estimate before any work has begun.
phototransformations
Glenn, It is a warranty issue -- the lens was this way out of the box and I've only used it briefly. Thanks! - David
