dave_s
Looks like PC socket for flash sync.
photoyann10
Yes I think so too. Often I see an Old standard with this socket but first time I see one on the Original. I will tell you when I receive the camera in a few days.
michaelging
Rollie used a different plug for PC connection, than did other cameras. It has a locking device to help keep the cord from coming out. Here is a link to he one that fits my camera, I can't tell if it would work on your model. http://www.paramountcords.com/rollei.asp
d_purdy
Are the lenses in that original as hazy as they look? I love those locking tips but I don't think they came along till a little later. I wish the FX still had them but it doesn't.
photoyann10
The lenses are crystal clear, not hazy at all. Ma be some of these cameras were transformed for studio work but later in the 40's. This is mysterious for me. May be Ferdy Stuttenheim could have interesting comments to give us ? tito sobrinho
The flash cord locking mechanism, started on the Rolleicord V of 1954. The Rolleiflex with the locking was introduced on the 3.5 MX-EVS of 1954 as well as on the 2.8 C in 1953. The simple socket as depicted on Yannick's Original was common on the first synch Rolleicord III in 1950 as well as on the Rolleicord IV of 1953. The 3.5 Rolleiflex X of 1949 and on the MX of 1951. The Rolleiflex 2.8A didn't have the locking as well as the 2.8B The Rolleiflexes with a flash synch, were used extensively by the photojournalists in the fifties thus, leading to the Graphic's demise as a primo camera for the newspapers. Since the Rolleiflex were expensive, a cheaper solution, was to add a synch to the older ones.
photoyann10
Interesting Tito. So you think this synchro socket could have been added in the 50's ?
kelly_flanigan1
The socket could have ben added in the 1950's; 1960's, 1970's.
jorge_jimenez1
The 1936 Rolleicord Ia shown on p, 30 of IanParker's book has a flash synch. Parker's 1030 Original shows added buld sych contacts added to the example in his book. The 1945 Automat Rolleiflex had factory installed pc on the bottom right. Yannick's Original had the pc and cord stay added which was common of professionals as the flash technology advanced. Tito is correct about the locking pc cord. It was used on their prefessional cameras through the SLX model 2 until 1984 Have y'll noticed that the RolleiClub information on the Original and Standard lens diameter data is reversed??? I could not find how to let them know, thus I am pointing it out here. I looked there about the lens hood question earlier. I have not found any information on the Original lens hood. jorge_jimenez1
Yannick said "The lenses are crystal clear, not hazy at all" If you are waiting for the arrival of the camera, how do you know if the lens is or is not clear?
photoyann10
Because I trust the person... I bought from this person a beautiful Rolleicord Art Deco and the description was cjust as it was mentionned... Well may be I'm too naive... Even if it is hazy, a Tessar can be clean easily. photoyann10
You're right Jorge about the Rolleiclub information about the Original lens diameter, I also noticed this mistake :)
photoyann10
I received the Rolleiflex and the socket is for flash photography. It will be interesting to try this camera in a studio.
