$3500 + 1 1/2 months free time, where would you go?

If you had $3500 and 1 1/2 months of free time, where would you go. This is a

photo adventure. I'm looking to go around April 15th to June 1st. I have been

looking into Patagonia and the surrounding area. It will be fall, so the winds

will have died down, and the crowds will mostly be gone. Maybe a couple of

snowshowers, to make for some nice shots. Where would you go? Lets here some

insight.

If it were me I'd go back to Alaska in a heartbeat - a real 'no brainer' decision.

I'd go to india. You might like to go from Luxor to Istanbul.

Mongolia / West China / Tibet and you can probably squeeze Nepal in there if you rough it.

While Dick Tope would go back to Alaska, as an Alaska resident I would remind you that April 15th to mid-May is still winter here outside of Los Anchorage, and most of the back country is still snowbound until about June 1. Bring klyster for your cross country skiing :-)

I would roadtrip through mexico.

Do you like cities or countryside?

I would go to tuscany, mix a cooking course with personal photography in that area of italy.

Go to Vietnam!

 

I'm going to Vietnam in 2 days, I'll let you know how it is when I come back on Jan 21st. My airfare is $1280 for LAX to Ho Chi Minh City, if you go on April it should be around $900.

Greece or Egypt or Southern Spain.

Throw in the Atacama Desert with Patagonia. Not sure that $3,500 will go very far anyplace in Europe right now. Vietnam & Thailand might be a little less expensive. Burma is the best of all if you have travel savvy.

I second India. The suffocating cities, vastness of the mountains, the Ganges river, Taj Mahal. And the food! All at bargain prices. Not sure if it'll be getting too hot around that time unless you stick to the far north.

thailand and the surrounding area. i fly thai air nonstop from JFK for about $900. i spend and average of $700 per month whole in country. great food! awesome photography. i have been going for over 7 years!

Thailand would be insanely hot during April and May. Most of India would also be hot to say

thanks for the idea on the atacama desert. would you go to the northern or southern region. the northern region has all of the geoglyphs, but the southern seems to have some inspiring natural elements to it. Don't you love Google Earth?

Tough call but I if I could only do one, it would be the south. That way you can base yourself in San Pedro de Atacama and take day trips each day. You'll want a minimum of 4n/3d in SPA and you won't run out of things to do if you spend 4 or 5 days. The north is spectacular but there is a lot of driving involved and you can't return to a home base every night. About 4 days for the north also. I'd go back to New Zealand. But Patagonia should be awesome too.
